The Department of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Ilocos Sur in cooperation with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) – Ilocos Sur conducted a Capability-Building Session on improving the packaging design, labeling and overall product presentation of taro-based products on August 12, 2026 at Brgy. Barbar, San Juan, Ilocos Sur. The activity was attended by the officers of the Barbar ARBs Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

Ms. Mariefel P. Rebibis of DTI – Ilocos Sur discussed the Overview of Administrative Order No. 2014-0030 (Labeling Guidelines), highlighting the mandatory label information required for prepackaged food products. She also emphasized the importance of establishing a strong brand identity and shared practical insights on effective problem-solving in managing and developing products.

A group discussion and consultation followed, allowing the cooperative members to actively participate in developing their brand logo and enhancing the product labels for their taro chips, taro cookies and taro kikiam. The session provided an avenue for the cooperative to improve the visual appeal, marketability and compliance of its products.

Through this collaborative initiative, DTI and DAR – Ilocos Sur reaffirm their commitment to strengthening cooperatives, enhancing the competitiveness of their products and creating greater market opportunities that contribute to improving the livelihood of cooperative members.

SAN JUAN, ILOCOS SUR — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)–Ilocos Sur through the Negosyo Center San Juan conducted a profiling activity among bamboo stick makers in Barangay Barbar, San Juan, Ilocos Sur, on August 12, 2026.

The activity aimed to identify and profile local bamboo craft makers and establish an updated database of the municipality’s bamboo industry. The initiative will provide valuable information on the current status of the sector serving as a basis for identifying the needs, challenges and potential opportunities of local bamboo crafters and developing appropriate interventions and support programs.

As part of the profiling activity, DTI gathered information on the bamboo products currently being produced, existing markets and distribution channels, production practices and the interventions needed to help the bamboo makers improve and expand their businesses.

Through initiatives such as this, DTI Ilocos Sur continues to work closely with local entrepreneurs and communities to better understand their needs and connect them with appropriate programs, services and interventions.
