There are many times when we hate to see ourselves experiencing again the things we despise. Sometimes, we tell ourselves bad things and say, “We didn’t learn any better.” We think we are starting over again, giving ourselves guilt, distress, and disappointment.

But little did we know that progress is not just about going upward, but rather about continuing to step forward.

While I was breaking down because I thought I had moved on from the things that hurt me before, yet still felt the pain again, my friend told me, “Progress is never linear.” That opened my eyes to what healing and progress truly are. There will be times when we feel we haven’t changed, that we are in the same spot as we were before.

However, reflecting on how far we’ve come and acknowledging that we are still here today means we are truly progressing. We may not vividly see the results, but if we look back, we now are different.
