WHO BENEFITS FROM A WEAK PESO?

Humihina ang Peso… Pero Sino ang Posibleng Makabenefit? 🇵🇭

But from a financial perspective, hindi lahat ng sectors ay negatively affected.

May mga individuals and businesses na maaaring makinabang kapag mas mahina ang peso against the US dollar.

💰 1. OFWs and Families Receiving Dollar Remittances

Let's say an OFW sends:

US$1,000

Kung ang exchange rate ay:

💵 ₱55/$ = ₱55,000

Pero kung:

💵 ₱62/$ = ₱62,000

That's an additional:

₱7,000

for the same US$1,000 remittance.

Same dollars. More pesos received.

💻 2. Freelancers Earning in USD

Kung ikaw ay freelancer earning in US dollars, a weaker peso may mean higher peso income when converting your earnings.

Example:

US$2,000 income

At ₱55/$ = ₱110,000

At ₱62/$ = ₱124,000

Difference: ₱14,000

But here's the important part:

Higher peso income doesn't automatically mean higher savings or higher profit.

You also need to consider your:

✔️ Taxes
✔️ Operating expenses
✔️ Software subscriptions
✔️ Team costs
✔️ Personal and business expenses

📦 3. Exporters

Businesses that sell products or services internationally and earn in USD may also benefit.

Why?

Because when they convert their dollar earnings into pesos:

They receive more pesos for the same dollar revenue.

However, there's an important CFO consideration:

Are your costs also increasing?

📦 Imported raw materials
⛽ Imported fuel
🛠️ Foreign equipment

Some of the benefit from higher dollar income may be offset by higher costs.

🌎 4. Businesses Earning in Foreign Currency

This can include businesses with:

💻 International clients
🌐 Overseas customers
📊 Foreign contracts
🏢 Dollar-based revenue

A weaker peso can potentially improve the peso value of their foreign currency revenue.

The real question is not simply:

“Kumikita ba tayo ng dollars?”

The better question is:

“Ano ang net impact ng exchange rate sa profitability and cash flow ng business?”

Because a business may have:

📈 Higher peso revenue

But also:

📈 Higher operating costs

That's why you need to look at the complete picture:

Foreign Currency Revenue

➖ Foreign Currency Expenses
➖ Higher Local Costs
= Actual Impact on Profitability

💡 CFO TIP

If your business earns in USD, don't automatically treat the additional peso conversion as extra profit.

Instead:

📊 Monitor your exchange rate
💰 Review your actual margins
📈 Track foreign currency income and expenses
🏦 Plan your cash conversion
🎯 Make decisions based on your net financial position

💙 BUSINESS OWNER REMINDER

A weak peso can create challenges.

But it can also create opportunities.

The key is understanding:

How does the exchange rate affect YOUR specific business?

Because the impact is different for every business.

Don't just watch the exchange rate. Understand what it means for your business.

📊 Know your numbers.
💰 Understand your profitability.
📈 Manage your cash flow.
🎯 Make smarter business decisions.

The answer?

Because PROFIT is not the same as CASH.

📊 Profit tells you if your business is earning.
💰 Cash tells you if your business can survive and operate.

💡 SIMPLE EXAMPLE

Let's say your business made:

Sales: ₱1,000,000

Less:

Expenses: ₱700,000

So, on paper:

Profit = ₱300,000

Sounds good, right? 🎉

But what if:

🔹 ₱400,000 of your sales are still uncollected from customers
🔹 You paid ₱200,000 for inventory in advance
🔹 You paid ₱100,000 for loan payments
🔹 You have upcoming payroll and supplier payments

Even though your business is profitable on paper...

You may still have a CASH PROBLEM. ⚠️

🚨 THIS IS WHY CASH FLOW MATTERS

Your business needs cash to pay for:

👥 Payroll
📦 Suppliers
🏢 Rent
⚡ Utilities
⛽ Transportation
💳 Loan payments
📊 Taxes
🔄 Daily operations

You cannot pay your employees with:

“Profit naman kami this month.” 😅

You need actual cash in the bank.

As a CFO, I don't only ask:

“Are we profitable?”

I also ask:

“Do we have enough cash to operate?”

And more importantly:

“How long can our current cash sustain the business?”

This is why you need to monitor:

📈 Cash Inflows
💸 Cash Outflows
📅 Accounts Receivable
📦 Inventory Levels
💳 Accounts Payable
🏦 Loan Obligations
📊 Upcoming Expenses
💰 Cash Forecast

⚠️ COMMON MISTAKE

Many business owners focus on:

❌ Sales
❌ Revenue
❌ Profit

But forget to monitor:

✅ CASH FLOW

Remember:

More sales don't always mean more cash.

Especially if:

➡️ Customers are paying late
➡️ Your inventory is moving slowly
➡️ Expenses are increasing
➡️ Loan payments are high
➡️ You are spending cash faster than you're collecting it

💡 CFO TIP

Don't wait until your bank balance is low before checking your cash flow.

Instead, ask:

“Based on my expected collections and payments, how much cash will I have next month?”

That is the difference between:

Reacting to a cash problem ❌

and

Planning ahead for cash needs ✅

💙 BUSINESS OWNER REMINDER

Profit is important.

But...

CASH IS WHAT KEEPS YOUR BUSINESS MOVING.

A profitable business can still fail if it runs out of cash.

That's why you need to monitor:

Profitability + Cash Flow + Working Capital

Not just sales.

Don't just ask, “How much did we sell?”

Ask:

“How much cash do we have—and is it enough for what's coming?”

📊 Know your numbers. Manage your cash. Plan ahead.

KAILANGAN BA NATING MAGTAAS NG PRESYO?

BAGO KA MAGTAAS NG PRICE, CHECK YOUR NUMBERS FIRST.

Maybe yes.
But don't decide based on feelings. Decide based on your numbers. 📊

As a CFO, hindi lang ako titingin sa:

“Magkano ang presyo ng competitors?”

Titingnan natin:

Cost → Margin → Pricing → Profitability → Customer Impact

💡 SIMPLE EXAMPLE

Let's say you sell a product for:

₱1,000

Current cost to produce/deliver:

₱600

So:

Gross Profit = ₱400
Gross Margin = 40%

Pero dahil tumaas ang materials, freight, fuel, at other costs, naging:

New Cost = ₱700

If you keep your price at ₱1,000:

₱1,000 – ₱700 = ₱300 Gross Profit

Your margin dropped from:

40% ➜ 30%

Sales may still look okay.

But you're earning ₱100 less per unit.

If you sell 1,000 units:

₱100 × 1,000 = ₱100,000

That's ₱100,000 less gross profit.

🤔 SO, MAGTATAAS BA NG PRICE?

Not automatically.

Before increasing your price, ask:

✔️ How much did my actual cost increase?
✔️ What gross margin do I need to maintain?
✔️ Which products/services have the best margins?
✔️ Can I reduce or renegotiate costs first?
✔️ How price-sensitive are my customers?
✔️ Will the new price still give me a healthy profit?
✔️ Will the increase improve profitability—or simply reduce sales volume?

🎯 CFO TIP

Instead of asking:

“Can I charge more?”

Ask:

“What price allows me to maintain a healthy margin while keeping my offer competitive and valuable to my customers?”

That's strategic pricing.

Hindi basta “dagdag presyo.”

It's about finding the right balance between:

Customer Value + Cost + Margin + Market + Profitability

💙 BUSINESS OWNER REMINDER

Your price should not be based solely on what your competitors charge.

Your business has its own:

Costs.
Overhead.
Value.
Target margin.
And financial goals.

So before you change your price...

CHECK THE NUMBERS.

Because sometimes, you don't need more customers.

You need better pricing and healthier margins.

Not sure if your current pricing is still profitable?

📊 Let's look beyond your sales and understand what your numbers are really telling you.

Know your costs. Protect your margins. Price with confidence.

Good news.

Pero as your CFO, I would ask:

“Magkano ang naiwan after all the costs?”

Because revenue is not profit.

💡 SIMPLE EXAMPLE

Let's say last year:

Sales: ₱1,000,000
Cost: ₱600,000
Gross Profit: ₱400,000

That's a 40% gross profit margin.

Ngayon, dahil tumaas ang costs:

Sales: ₱1,000,000
Cost: ₱700,000
Gross Profit: ₱300,000

Your sales stayed the same.

Pero ang gross profit mo bumaba ng:

₱100,000

And your margin went from:

40% ➜ 30%

That's a 10-percentage-point drop in gross margin.

You need to know:

How much are you earning from every peso of sales?

That's why business owners should regularly monitor:

📊 Revenue
📦 Cost of Goods Sold
💰 Gross Profit
📈 Gross Profit Margin
🏦 Operating Expenses
💵 Net Profit Margin
💳 Cash Flow

Because these numbers tell you what is actually happening inside your business.

⚠️ RED FLAG

Kung ganito ang trend:

Sales ↑
Costs ↑↑
Gross Margin ↓
Profit ↓

You need to investigate first.

Ask:

✔️ May unnecessary expenses ba?
✔️ Kailangan bang i-adjust ang pricing?
✔️ Which customers or products are actually the most profitable?

💙 REMINDER

Don't manage your business based on sales alone.

Manage it based on profitability, margins, and cash flow.

Because a business can be busy without being profitable.

And sometimes, the problem isn't that you need more sales.

You may simply need better margins.

Know your numbers before you make your next big business decision.

📊 Track your margins. Protect your profit. Build a stronger business.

For example:

⛽ Mas mahal ang fuel at transportation
📦 Mas mahal ang imported supplies at inventory
🛠️ Mas expensive ang equipment at machinery
💻 Mas mataas ang cost ng USD-based subscriptions
🏭 Tumataas ang presyo ng raw materials
🚢 Puwedeng tumaas ang shipping at logistics costs

💡 SIMPLE EXAMPLE

Let's say your business pays:

US$500/month for a software subscription.

If the exchange rate is:

₱55/$ → ₱27,500

Pero kapag naging:

₱62/$ → ₱31,000

That's an additional:

👉 ₱3,500 per month
👉 ₱42,000 per year

Same subscription. Same US$500.

⚠️ HERE'S THE PROBLEM

Higher Costs ➜ Lower Gross Margin ➜ Lower Profit

Kaya hindi enough na sabihin:

“Malakas naman ang sales namin.”

The better question is:

“Mas profitable pa ba kami?”

This September, take time to review your numbers.

Ask yourself:

✔️ May expenses ba na puwedeng bawasan or renegotiate?
✔️ Enough ba ang cash flow ko to handle higher costs?

Don't wait until your profit disappears before you check your numbers.

Tumataas man ang costs, make sure your business stays profitable.

📊 Know your numbers. Protect your margins. Make smarter decisions.

The Weak Peso Explained

The peso closed around ₱62.40 per US dollar this September 1,2026

“Weak Peso: Bakit Dapat Mag-Care ang Business Owners?”

Napapansin mo ba?

1️⃣ Mas malakas ang demand for US dollars
Kapag investors and businesses need more dollars, tumataas ang demand for USD relative to peso.

Recent data show the trade deficit widening significantly.

4️⃣ Global uncertainty 🌎
Kapag may geopolitical tensions or market uncertainty, investors often favor the US dollar, which can put additional pressure on emerging-market currencies like the peso.

Because your business doesn't operate in isolation from the economy.

A weaker peso can mean:

📈 Higher cost of imported materials
📈 Higher fuel and transportation costs
📈 More expensive equipment
📈 Higher dollar-denominated subscriptions or services
📉 Lower profit margins
💰 Greater working-capital requirements

For example:

If your business has a US$10,000 expense:

At ₱55/$ → ₱550,000

At ₱62/$ → ₱620,000

That's ₱70,000 additional pesos for the same US$10,000 expense.

Same dollar cost. Different peso impact.

“How is the exchange rate affecting my business?”

Look at your:

Revenue → Costs → Gross Margin → Cash Flow → Pricing → Profit

Because a business can have strong sales but shrinking profits if costs are increasing faster than prices.

The peso may be weakening. Your business doesn't have to. 🇵🇭💙

Know your numbers.
Protect your margins.
Manage your cash flow.
Make smarter decisions.
