Harvesting Hope: SCDJ Reaps First Mushroom Yield 🍄
The Sorsogon City District Jail proudly marks the beginning of its mushroom livelihood initiative with its first harvest.
Mushroom production is now underway, marking the beginning of a promising livelihood program. It signifies the start of skills development, reflects the initial stage of sustainable production, and underscores the launch of opportunities for growth and self-reliance among Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), assisted by JO1 Airiks L Lorda – Livelihood Officer.
A product of the 2-Day Training on Mushroom Production and Processing facilitated by the Sorsogon Dairy Production and Technology Center on February 19–20, 2026.
Through this initiative, SCDJ continues its commitment to rehabilitation and empowerment—one harvest at a time.

SCDJ Showcases PDL Livelihood at SSU NTPA General Assembly 🤝

Sorsogon City District Jail proudly participated in the Sorsogon State University Non-Teaching Personnel Association General Assembly today, December 12, 2025, by presenting a range of PDL-crafted livelihood products through a dedicated Trade Fair. Representing the jail were JO1 Ian Jay O Frando, Community Relations Service Officer, and JO1 Marc John B Belen, Livelihood Officer, who highlighted the creativity and craftsmanship of Persons Deprived of Liberty.

Special thanks to Sorsogon State University for continuously opening doors of support and collaboration for our rehabilitation and skills development programs. Your partnership strengthens our mission to empower PDLs through meaningful, productive, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

SCDJ Partners for Inclusive and Sustainable Livelihood Programs

Today, December 09, 2025, JO3 Mary Ann J Buatis – Chief, Welfare and Development, JO1 Joseph Nathaniel S Marmol – Paralegal, JO1 Ian Jay O Frando – Community Relations Service Officer, and JO1 Marc John B Belen – Livelihood Officer of the Sorsogon City District Jail met with Engr. Neil Dominic Careo of the UNDP at the DTI-OTOP Hub, Sorsogon City.

The discussion focused on the EU-PH Green Economy Partnership, funded by the European Union and co-implemented by DILG and UNDP, to strengthen livelihood programs while promoting a circular economy for youth, women, PWDs, PDLs, and other marginalized groups.

Participated in the 4th Year BS Entrepreneurship Product Soft Launching held on November 7, 2025, at the Sorsogon State University – Sorsogon City Campus.
Through this activity, the SCDJ Livelihood Section showcased PDL-made products that reflect their skills, creativity, and commitment to reformation through entrepreneurship.

NACOCOW 2025: TRADE FAIR

The Sorsogon City District Jail proudly participated in the National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) 2025 Trade Fair held on October 22–23, 2025 at City Mall Sorsogon.
Organized by the BJMP Sorsogon Provincial Office, the activity showcased various livelihood products made by Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL), highlighting their creativity, skills, and commitment to reformation and reintegration into society.
The activity was attended by JO3 Mary Ann J Buatis, Chief Welfare and Development, JO1 Airiks L Lorda, Development Officer, and JO1 Charity Cadag from the BJMP Sorsogon Provincial Office. Also joining the event were the Irosin and Gubat District Jails, who likewise presented their locally crafted PDL products. 💪

BJMP SORSOGON JOINS KASANGGAYAHAN FESTIVAL'S UNITY AND CIVIC PARADE

The BJMP Sorsogon participates and joined this years' grand opening celebration of the much-awaited Kasanggayahan Festival. The celebration commenced from Sorsogon Provincial Capitol this morning with a Unity and Civic Parade, with enthusiastic participation from various sectors. The parade ended at the astonishing Balogo Sports Complex.

The Kasanggayahan Festival is the biggest festival in the province of Sorsogon, Philippines. Held every October 1 to 31, it is a month-long celebration of its founding anniversary. Regarded as the province’ Festival of all Festivals.

Sorsogon is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Kasanggayahan Festival, that coincides with the 130th Founding Anniversary of the province, and the 455th commemoration of the first mass held in Luzon.

The BJMP Sorsogon will continue to support the local government of Sorsogon in promoting the joyful celebration of the Kasanggayahan Festival in the province of Sorsogon.

FARM FIELD SCHOOL GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR PERSONS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY (PDL)

The Sorsogon City District Jail with the leadership of our Acting Warden J/CINSP LOUIE ANGELO C UNGRIA held the Farm Field School (FFS) “Training on Organic Vegetable Production” Graduation Ceremony.

There are nineteen (19) male PDL, seven (7) female PDL, two (2) male personnel and two (2) female personnel who successfully graduated from the said training program. The ceremony was participated by representative of the Honorable MA. ESTER E HAMOR, City Councilors of Sorsogon, Ms. Adeline J Detera –City Agriculturist of Department of Agriculture, JINSP AMPON G GESTRE, Our Acting Warden - J/CINSP LOUIE ANGELO C UNGRIA and personnel from the jail unit.

We are thrilled to extend our heartfelt congratulations on the successful completion of the Farm Field School of the 26 Persons Deprived of Liberty and 4 personnel of the Jail Unit. Their dedication, hard work, and passion for learning have truly shone through, and this achievement is a testament of their commitment to sustainable agriculture and community development.

Through the efforts of the training staff and personnel of the jail unit, they have not only gained valuable knowledge and skills but also contributed to the well-being of the community and the environment. We are excited to see how they will apply what they’ve learned and inspire others along the way.
