Balancing Expectations: HR, Raises, and the CEO’s Sales Focus

As the HR Manager of a Cosmetic Company, Angela Cruz had handled her fair share of difficult conversations, but today’s meetings felt particularly challenging. Employees had been requesting salary increases, citing inflation and the company's growing success. Angela understood their concerns—after all, they had worked hard to contribute to the company’s expansion.

Before meeting with the employees, Angela decided to discuss the matter with the CEO, Mr. Edward Rivera. She entered his sleek, minimalist office, where he was reviewing the latest sales reports.

"Good morning, sir," Angela greeted, placing a folder on his desk.

"Morning, Angela. What’s on your mind?" Mr. Rivera asked, not looking up from the numbers.

"I wanted to discuss the salary adjustments many employees have been requesting. Our competitors are offering higher wages, and our team has been working tirelessly to meet targets. I believe a reasonable salary increase will boost morale and retention," she explained.

Mr. Rivera finally looked up, tapping his pen on the desk. "I understand, but before we talk about raises, I need to see an increase in sales volume. Have we exceeded last quarter’s numbers? Have we hit our yearly revenue goals?"

Angela took a deep breath. She anticipated this response. "Actually, our sales have improved by 15% this quarter, and productivity has been high. The team is engaged, but they’re also feeling the pressure. If we reward them appropriately, they’ll be even more motivated to push sales further."

Mr. Rivera considered this, leaning back in his chair. "Alright. I’ll approve salary adjustments under one condition—sales must increase by another 10% next quarter. If we reach that target, I’m willing to discuss raises across departments."

Angela nodded. It wasn’t the immediate solution the employees wanted, but it was a start. Now, she had to relay this to the team and strategize with sales leaders to meet the new goal.

As she walked back to her office, she prepared for the next round of discussions. HR wasn’t just about managing people—it was about balancing business strategy and employee well-being. And today was another reminder of how delicate that balance could be.

"The HR Diaries: Secrets, Scandals, and Silent Observers"

Patricia, the HR Manager, had seen it all—resignations, heated arguments, and the occasional stolen office supplies. But nothing, nothing, entertained her quite like the ongoing soap opera between Mark from Sales and Andrea from Marketing.

It started subtly—longer-than-usual coffee breaks, suspiciously coincidental lunch schedules, and the occasional accidental brushing of hands during meetings. Patricia, being the seasoned HR professional that she was, noticed it immediately. But instead of calling them out, she simply leaned back in her chair, sipping her coffee, and let the drama unfold.

Things escalated when a few observant employees started whispering about how Mark’s weekend trips mysteriously aligned with Andrea’s vacation days. The office was abuzz with speculation. Even accounting got involved, cross-referencing expense reports just for fun.

Then came the storm.

Andrea’s longtime boyfriend—who, up until then, no one knew existed—stormed into the office one afternoon, demanding to see her. The entire floor went silent. Patricia, feigning ignorance, calmly asked security to handle the situation. Meanwhile, she discreetly positioned herself by the glass window of her office, pretending to read an email while keeping one eye on the unfolding spectacle.

Mark, looking guilty as sin, tried to sneak out the back exit. Andrea, torn between panic and damage control, whispered something to her enraged boyfriend, who responded by dramatically knocking over a stack of brochures.

By the end of the day, the entire office had turned into an episode of The Real Housewives: Corporate Edition.

Patricia, with her years of experience, did what any responsible HR professional would do—she updated the company’s employee relationship policy, sent a gentle reminder about professionalism, and went home with a satisfied smirk.

After all, she didn’t create the drama. She just enjoyed the show.
