PNP STRENGTHENS SCHOOL SAFETY PROGRAMS, EXPANDS PREVENTIVE INITIATIVES FOR STUDENTS
Recognizing the growing concern of parents, students, and the public over recent incidents affecting schools in different parts of the country, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is stepping up its preventive and community-based programs to help ensure that schools remain safe spaces for learning.
While investigations into individual incidents continue to be handled by the appropriate police units, the PNP is taking a broader approach by strengthening measures that help prevent violence before it happens. Beyond maintaining Police Assistance and Help Desks in schools, the organization is expanding student-centered activities such as self-defense awareness lectures, personal safety seminars, and crime prevention discussions to equip young people with practical knowledge that can help them recognize risks, respond appropriately, and seek immediate assistance when needed.
One of the recent activities was conducted at Tiwi Community College in Albay, where police personnel engaged students in discussions on personal safety, situational awareness, and basic self-defense techniques. The activity also encouraged students to become active partners in promoting peace and security within their schools and communities.
The expanded initiative is part of the PNP's continuing efforts under its Focused Agenda, particularly the Enhanced Managing Police Operations pillar, which emphasizes proactive policing, crime prevention, and stronger engagement with communities. It likewise supports the direction of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen public safety through collaborative and preventive measures that protect the nation's youth.
PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., said the recent incidents serve as a reminder that protecting students requires sustained action, not only during emergencies but through continuous engagement with schools and communities.
"Nauunawaan namin ang pangamba ng mga magulang at ng publiko. Kaya hindi tayo naghihintay na may mangyari bago kumilos. Mas pinalalakas natin ang ating presence sa mga paaralan at pinalalawak ang mga programang nagbibigay ng kaalaman at kakayahan sa ating mga estudyante upang mas maging handa at ligtas sila."
He stressed that safety is a shared responsibility and that the PNP will continue working closely with schools, local government units, parents, and community partners to strengthen protective measures around educational institutions.
"Hindi lang ito tungkol sa pagpapatupad ng batas. Tungkol din ito sa pagbuo ng tiwala at pakikipagtulungan sa ating mga paaralan at komunidad. Gusto nating maramdaman ng bawat estudyante at bawat magulang na kasama nila ang PNP sa pagpapanatili ng kanilang kaligtasan."
The PNP assured the public that similar school-based initiatives will continue to be implemented nationwide as part of its sustained commitment to prevention, youth empowerment, and community partnership. Through these efforts, the organization continues to uphold Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman, bringing responsive and people-centered policing closer to every Filipino community.
