In partnership with TELUS Digital and Manila Workshops, I led an online seminar on professional email writing.

Prosaic as the topic might be for most, the seminar highlighted one theme above all the tips, frameworks, and examples we discussed: be purposeful.

Every email you write should start with clarity of intent. Ask yourself: What is my general purpose? (Am I informing, persuading, collaborating, or initiating a conversation?) What is my specific purpose? (What exactly do I want the reader to do, feel, or decide after reading?)

When you are purposeful, your writing naturally adjusts - your time, level of detail, and even sentence structure align with your goal. A purposeful email saves time, avoids misunderstandings, and increases the chance of getting the response you want.

This collaboration with the American Battle Monuments Commission and MSS Corporation was especially meaningful to me. My grandfather served in the USAFFE during World War II and was later a NAWASA administrator when he died in service during Typhoon Yoling. At his burial, he was honored with the American flag and a 21-gun salute - symbols of duty, sacrifice, and respect that the ABMC upholds in every ceremony it conducts. Working with ABMC reminded me that behind every carefully planned commemorative event lies a legacy of courage and service that continues to inspire.

We negotiated with this client way back in 2019. Because of the covid-19 pandemic, the program was postponed indefinitely. Because of the sheer determination of the company’s management to reskill and upskill their people, it is now taking off.
