As we observe Privacy Awareness Week 2026, we recognize the continuing efforts of the National Privacy Commission in strengthening privacy awareness, accountability, and responsible personal data processing across the country.

Data privacy is no longer just a legal or technical discussion. It is part of how organizations build trust, governance, and responsibility in an increasingly digital world.

At BSSI, we support initiatives that help organizations and individuals become more privacy-aware, more accountable, and more prepared for evolving risks and responsibilities.

This year’s observance is also especially meaningful as the NPC marks a decade of advancing data privacy in the Philippines.

Here’s to building a stronger culture of privacy together.

The long weekend is here.

People pause.
Risks don’t.

That’s where governance and privacy controls matter most—
quietly doing their job when no one’s watching.

Wishing you a safe, restful, and meaningful Holy Week.

Someone posts screenshots of your private conversation online.
Is that automatically allowed because it's “personal drama”?

Not necessarily.

According to NPC Advisory Opinion No. 2020-043, the key issue is whether the screenshots contain personal data that can identify a person.

If the screenshots show a name, photo, or other identifying information, the situation may fall within the scope of the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

However, if identifying details are removed or blurred, the legal assessment may be different.

The takeaway:
Just because a conversation is personal does not automatically mean it is safe to post publicly.

Think carefully before sharing private conversations online.

What do you think — should posting screenshots of private chats be allowed?
