A little reminder from one of our recent cases. 🐱❤️
This cat was brought in with open-mouth breathing. During the physical examination, we noticed that the heart sounds were muffled, which prompted us to investigate further.
After the recommended blood tests, a 2D echocardiogram was performed and showed a significant amount of fluid around the heart.
Because the cat was having difficulty breathing, we had to perform an emergency pericardiocentesis to drain the fluid. Around 200 mL of fluid was removed, helping relieve the pressure around the heart.
This case reminded us how important it is to pay attention to changes in your pet's breathing, have them examined promptly, and follow through with recommended diagnostics when needed.
We’re grateful that the owner trusted the process and allowed us to proceed with the necessary tests and emergency treatment.
Sometimes, it’s the simple things: a good history, careful examination, and timely action that help us understand what’s really happening. 🐾
