Crafting impact through community: How Kamagong Woodworkz uplifts local artisansā£

For Elsie Espiritu, founder of Kamagong Woodworkz and Diskarteng May Puso (Start-Up) winner of the 4th Gawad Madiskarte, craftsmanship is more than a skillāitās a livelihood worth protecting. What began in 2020 as a small, home-based hustle quickly grew into a purpose-driven business that champions Filipino woodworkers and painters while responding to the needs of small entrepreneurs during the pandemic.ā£

āOur journey started because we wanted to help our community through our collapsible carts. [When we started getting clients who are living in condos,] my husband and I did oculars, took measurements, and handled deliveries on our own,ā Espiritu says. āWe started building our products in a bangketa at home. Now, we have a shop thatās almost 150sqm with workers.ā From a one-woman operation, Kamagong Woodworkz has grown into a thriving enterprise, now producing modular kitchens, shelves, and custom pieces for homes and businesses.ā£

Beyond business growth, Espirituās mission remains rooted in impact. āIt makes us happy that weāve been able to give local craftsmen and painters stable jobs. Itās fulfilling to help our community through our business,ā she shares. Supported by PLDT Homeās Madiskarte Moms PH, she found a community that helped her take the leap and grow with purpose alongside fellow mompreneurs.ā£
