Most Amazon main images look professional but fail to sell.

At thumbnail scale on a phone screen, most images fail for one of three reasons:

1. Product fills too little of the frame β€” 60% of the impression is white background
2. Product doesn't communicate what it is in one glance β€” buyer has to read the title
3. Image looks identical to every competitor in the category β€” no visual distinction

The main image is not a product photo. It is the most important piece of conversion real estate on the listing.

Treating it like a product photo is one of the most expensive creative mistakes in Amazon brand building.

Save this for your next listing creative brief.

Before recommending any product launch, I check 5 things.

One missing = wait. All missing = wrong product.

1. Sustained purchase history β€” not search volume (check Keepa BSR, not keyword tools)
2. Viable margin at competitive price β€” run the pessimistic version
3. Differentiation buyers will actually notice and reward
4. Realistic path to competitive review count within budget
5. A specific target buyer β€” not "everyone who might use this"

Most launch failures trace back to one of these being skipped.

Save this for the next time a product looks good on paper.

Most Amazon sellers think buyers read their listing. They don't β€” not at the point where the buying decision is actually made.

In the first 3 seconds on a search results page, a buyer processes:
β€” Main image
β€” Star rating and review count
β€” Price
β€” Title (first 4–5 words)

That is what drives the click decision. Everything else β€” bullets, A+ content, brand story β€” comes after.

Which means a main image that communicates poorly is losing buyers before they ever see the listing.

Most sellers optimise what buyers never see while underinvesting in the 3 seconds that determine whether buyers see anything at all.

Save this for your next listing review.

Something that surprises most Amazon sellers when I raise it.

ACOS is not the number that tells you if your brand is healthy. TACOS is.

Two brands. Same 28% ACOS.

Brand A: TACOS 16%. Organic sales growing. Ads compounding.
Brand B: TACOS 28%. No organic growth. Every sale paid for.

Same ACOS report. Completely different businesses.

If you have never calculated your TACOS, it is worth doing before your next budget decision.

Before increasing your Amazon PPC budget β€” 4 signals that tell me a product is ready.

1. Organic sales exist independently of advertising β€” even small ones.
2. The margin structure supports competitive ad spend without going negative.
3. There is a visible differentiation angle the listing communicates in 2 seconds.
4. Early reviews are building at a positive velocity.

If all four are present: invest aggressively.

If any are missing: solve them first. More spend on a product missing these signals is not a growth strategy.

Brand positioning on Amazon is not keywords.

It is the answer to one question: why would someone choose your product over every other option in the category?

Most Amazon listings are comprehensive, optimised, and completely generic.

A well-positioned listing makes the right buyer feel in the first two seconds that this product was made for them.

That clarity shapes everything: the main image, title, pricing, A+ content, the review base that accumulates.

The brands that compound on Amazon almost always made this decision clearly. Most brands never make it at all.

A result worth sharing β€” because it illustrates something most sellers never see in their own account.

US private label brand. Good products, real demand. But 66% ACOS and revenue stuck.

We audited. Found an architecture problem β€” campaigns competing internally, budget flowing to the wrong places.

We rebuilt the structure. Same budget.

By March 2026: ACOS at 35.5%. Revenue at $77,474.

The problem was never the keywords. It was the structure underneath them.

Before your next Amazon launch β€” three questions worth asking honestly.

1. Is there genuine demand for this product, or just keyword volume?
2. Can the product sell profitably at a competitive market price?
3. Is there a real reason to choose this product over what already exists?

If the answer to any of these is unclear, advertising will not solve it.

PPC amplifies what is already there. It cannot create what is missing.

Most launch failures are decided before the first ad runs.

One question that will tell you more about your Amazon agency than any proposal:

"What structural change did you make to my account last month β€” and why?"

If the answer is a list of bid adjustments, that is your answer.

Bid adjustments are maintenance. They prevent decay. They do not create growth.

Real account management means architectural decisions. Restructured campaigns. Rebuilt targeting logic.

Most sellers never ask this question. The ones who do either confirm they have a good agency β€” or finally understand why results have been flat.

Something worth thinking about before your next launch decision.

There is a difference between building a product on Amazon and building a brand.

A product competes on price and rank. A brand compounds β€” customers return, brand searches grow, and competitors cannot easily displace you.

Most Amazon sellers build products. A few build brands. The long-term performance difference is significant.

What are you building?
