Please, give it a thorough read.

A very thoughtful provoking read
for my young friends and fellows

If I was created for a purpose greater than this world, then why am I living like this world is all I have? Am I chasing things that were never meant to last, while ignoring the One who was meant to last forever?

*Answer:* we get so caught up in the dunya that we forget why we were created That feeling of emptiness isn’t random. It’s a reminder. When our heart chases things that were never meant to last, it gets tired. Because it was made for something eternal.

*Why were we created?*
Allah tells us directly in the Quran:

"And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me" — Surah Adh-Dhariyat 51:56. Here isn’t just prayer. It’s the whole life — living with consciousness of Allah. Loving Him, obeying Him, trusting Him, and using this world as a path back to Him. The Prophet ﷺ also reminded us: "Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler." — Sahih Bukhari 6416

We were sent here with a mission: to know Allah, to do good, and to prepare for the akhirah. This dunya is the exam hall, not the home.

Why do we feel useless and empty?
—That emptiness has 3 main roots
that the Quran and Sunnah point to:

- *A.* We attach to what is temporary "Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another..." — Surah Al-Hadid 57:20

Careers, status, likes, money — they give a quick high, then fade. The heart was made for the Everlasting, so temporary things can never fill it.

- *B.* We drift away from dhikr "And whoever turns away from My remembrance — indeed, for him is a depressed life..." — Surah Taha 20:124

When we forget Allah, anxiety, restlessness, and that "something is missing" feeling grows. The heart only finds rest in Him: "Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest." — Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28

- *C.* We lose purpose: a life without a "why" feels heavy. Islam gives that why. Even small acts — helping someone, smiling, working with ihsan — become worship when done for Allah. Without that intention, the same work feels empty.

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Amazing is the affair of the believer, for there is good for him in every matter... and that is for no one except the believer." — Sahih Muslim 2999

With Allah in the picture, nothing is wasted.

How do we bring our hearts back?

Remember the end: "Every soul will taste death. And you will only be given your full compensation on the Day of Resurrection." — Surah Aal Imran 3:185
This resets priorities.

Renew dhikr and salah: They’re not chores. They’re oxygen for the soul that feels suffocated by dunya.

Do good with intention: Serve parents, help people, be honest at work — all of it becomes when for Allah.

Make dua for guidance: The Prophet ﷺ often made this dua:
"O Turner of hearts, keep my heart firm on Your religion." — Tirmidhi 2140

*Conclusion:* we feel lost when we chase a world that leaves. We feel full when we walk toward the One who stays. This life is short. A bridge. But every step on it can be meaningful if it’s taken toward Allah.

May Allah keep our hearts focused on Him, fill the emptiness with His love, and remind us daily of why we are here. Ameen
