Polygala erioptera, commonly known as the woolly-winged milkwort, is a small annual or perennial herb belonging to the milkwort family (Polygalaceae). It is widely distributed across dry tropical and subtropical regions, spanning Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Pakistan, India, and parts of Southeast Asia.

Traditional Uses:
In traditional medicine systems within parts of South Asia, tribal communities utilize extracts from the plant for wound healing, managing pain, and treating minor gastrointestinal complaints.

Location: very rare plant found in main Darazinda s.d Dera Ismail khan KPK Pakistan.

🌵 Meet Rosularia viguieri — a tiny survivor of the mountains!

You all know about CAM plants, famous for saving water in harsh, dry environments. Now, take a look at another beautiful CAM plant—Rosularia viguieri.

With its attractive rosettes of thick, fleshy leaves and delicate pink star-shaped flowers, this mountain succulent is perfectly adapted to life on rocky slopes where water is scarce. Instead of wasting water during the day, it opens its stomata at night, making it a true master of survival.

Nature proves once again that even the smallest plants can have extraordinary adaptations. 🌸🌿

🌿 Trigonella gracilis is a small wild legume that thrives in rocky mountain habitats. Although modest in appearance, it plays an important ecological role by enriching the soil through nitrogen fixation and supporting biodiversity in natural grasslands.

Family: Rosaceae (Rose Family)
📍 New Record from Darazinda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan
Spiraea brahuica is a beautiful deciduous shrub with clusters of delicate white flowers. It naturally grows on rocky mountain slopes and is known from western Pakistan. Its presence in Darazinda adds valuable information to the floristic diversity of the region and highlights the botanical importance of the Sulaiman Mountains.

Although it is not widely used by people, this plant is an important part of natural ecosystems. Like many wild plants, it helps support biodiversity and contributes to the health of the environment.

Aerva sanguinolenta (L.) Blume

Family: Amaranthaceae (Amaranth Family)

Aerva sanguinolenta is a wild herb commonly found in fields, roadsides, grasslands, and dry rocky habitats. It is recognized by its small white flowers arranged in dense spikes and its softly hairy leaves and stems.

This species is widely distributed across Pakistan and other tropical regions of Asia and Africa. In traditional medicine, it has been used for the treatment of wounds, fever, urinary disorders, and certain skin diseases. In some rural areas, its young shoots are also used as livestock fodder.

As a native wild plant, Aerva sanguinolenta contributes to local biodiversity and deserves conservation and further scientific study.

🌿 A New Botanical Discovery from Takht-e-Sulaiman! 🌿
I am delighted to share that during my May 2026 plant exploration in Ponga Meadow, Takht-e-Sulaiman, Darazinda (Dera Ismail Khan), I recorded the beautiful Tree Spinach (Chenopodium giganteum), also known as Magenta Spreen.
This striking plant, with its bright magenta young leaves, has only recently been reported from Pakistan. My collected specimen has been submitted to the National Herbarium of Pakistan (ISL), NARC, Islamabad, where it will become part of the country's permanent botanical record.
Every plant discovery helps us better understand Pakistan's rich biodiversity and highlights the importance of conserving our unique natural heritage.
