Faisalabad, Kasur, and Karachi suffer the most, where a large number of industries discharge untreated or partially treated wastewater in regional drains or nullahs. This heavily contaminated water is eventually discharged in larger water bodies like rivers. The worst example of river pollution is seen in the case of River Ravi, where the once majestic river has now been denigrated to no more than a huge gutter for the adjoining districts.
