ڈپٹی کمشنر/چیئرمین ڈسٹرکٹ ڈیزاسٹر مینجمنٹ کمیٹی سکردو جناب حمزہ مراد کے ہمراہ قائم مقام اسسٹنٹ کمشنر سکردو، اے ڈی ڈیزاسٹر مینجمنٹ سکردو اور واٹر مینجمنٹ ڈیپارٹمنٹ سکردو کے ذمہ داران نے برگے نالہ اور گیول نالہ کا دورہ کیا۔ دورے کے دوران چینلائزیشن کے جاری کام کا تفصیلی جائزہ لیا گیا۔
ڈپٹی کمشنر سکردو نے متعلقہ محکموں اور ٹھیکیدار کو ہدایت کی کہ کام کی رفتار مزید تیز کی جائے اور معیار کو بہتر بنایا جائے تاکہ منصوبہ بروقت مکمل ہو سکے۔ بعد ازاں، قائم مقام اسسٹنٹ کمشنر سکردو کو ہدایت دی گئی کہ برگے نالہ میں تجاوزات کے حوالے سے فوری طور پر فہرست مرتب کی جائے اور ضروری کارروائی عمل میں لائی جائے۔
اس موقع پر علاقے کے معززین اور ذمہ داران نے ڈپٹی کمشنر سکردو کی جانب سے تجاوزات کے خلاف بھرپور اقدامات اور چینلائزیشن کے کام کو سراہا۔

آج وزیر زراعت، لائیو سٹاک، ماہی پروری اور آبپاشی حاجی عبدالحکیم نے سول سیکرٹریٹ جوٹیال میں واٹر مینجمنٹ اینڈ ایریگیشن (WM&I) سیکرٹریٹ جی بی کا دورہ کیا۔
سیکرٹری WM&I-GB جناب سبطین احمد نے محکمانہ افسران اور عملے کے ساتھ معزز وزیر کا پرتپاک استقبال کیا۔ دورے کے دوران سیکرٹری نے وزیر کو مجموعی محکمانہ سرگرمیوں کے مینڈیٹ اور رولز آف بزنس (ROB) سے آگاہ کیا۔
معزز وزیر نے گلگت بلتستان بھر میں فیلڈ دفاتر کی سرشار کاوشوں کو سراہا اور سماجی و اقتصادی ترقی بالخصوص زراعت اور آبی وسائل کے انتظام میں محکمہ واٹر مینجمنٹ اور ایریگیشن کے اہم اور اسٹریٹجک کردار کا اعتراف کیا۔ انہوں نے ROB کے مطابق محکمہ کی کارکردگی کو سراہا۔
وزیر نے مستقبل کے چیلنجوں سے مؤثر طریقے سے نمٹنے اور پورے خطے میں خدمات کی فراہمی کو بڑھانے کے لیے محکمے کو مزید مضبوط بنانے کے لیے اپنے مکمل تعاون اور عزم کا یقین دلایا۔

Today the Minister for Agriculture, Livestock Fisheries and Irrigation Haji Abdul Hakeem visited the Water Management & Irrigation (WM&I) Secretariat GB at Civil Secretariat Jutial.
The Secretary WM&I-GB, Mr. Sibtain Ahmad warmly welcomed the Honorable Minister along with departmental officers and staff. During the visit the Secretary briefed the Minister on the overall departmental activities mandate and Rules of Business (ROB).
The Honorable Minister appreciated the dedicated efforts of the field offices across Gilgit-Baltistan and acknowledged the critical and strategic role of the Water Management & Irrigation Department in socio-economic development particularly in agriculture and water resource management. He lauded the departments performance in line with its ROB.
The Minister assured his full support and commitment to further strengthen the department to effectively address future challenges and enhance service delivery across the region.

سیکرٹری واٹر مینجمنٹ اینڈ ایریگیشن ڈیپارٹمنٹ حکومت گلگت بلتستان کی زیر صدارت آج P&DD آفس سول سیکرٹریٹ جوٹیال میں ایک واٹر کانفرنس منعقد ہوئی۔ کانفرنس میں ڈائریکٹر ڈبلیو ایم اینڈ آئی جی بی، تمام دس اضلاع کے ڈپٹی ڈائریکٹرز فیلڈ انجینئرز اور دیگر متعلقہ اسٹیک ہولڈرز نے شرکت کی۔
اجلاس میں GB ADP PSDP اور ETI پر مبنی ILD سکیموں کے تحت جاری منصوبوں کی مستقبل کی ADP منصوبہ بندی کی پیشرفت کے لئے محکمہ کے کردار اور ترجیحات کا جائزہ لیا گیا اور گلگت بلتستان میں موسمیاتی تبدیلی کے تناظر میں پانی کے انتظام کے اہم کردار پر تبادلہ خیال کیا گیا۔ فورم نے متفقہ طور پر سیکرٹریٹ کی سطح پر آبی وسائل کے انتظام اور موسمیاتی تبدیلی کے سیکشن کے قیام کے لیے ایک ورکنگ پیپر شروع کرنے اور مستقبل کی منصوبہ بندی کے لیے آبی وسائل، گلیشیئرز، ویٹ لینڈز، واٹر شیڈز اور زرعی زمین کی جامع دستاویزات کے لیے ڈیٹا بیسڈ سسٹم تیار کرنے کا فیصلہ کیا۔
سیکرٹری ڈبلیو ایم اینڈ آئی نے تمام شرکاء کا شکریہ ادا کیا اور گلگت بلتستان میں پائیدار ترقی اور غذائی تحفظ کو یقینی بنانے کے لیے پانی کے انتظام اور آبپاشی کے شعبے کو مضبوط بنانے کے اپنے عزم کا اعادہ کیا۔

A Water Management & Irrigation Conference was held today at the Civil Secretariat Jutial Gilgit under the chairmanship of the Secretary Water Management & Irrigation Department Government of Gilgit-Baltistan. The conference was attended by the Director WM&I GB Deputy Secretary WM&I GB, Deputy Directors from all ten districts field engineers and other relevant stakeholders.
The meeting reviewed the department's role and priorities for future ADP planning progress of ongoing projects under GB ADP PSDP and ETI based ILD schemes and discussed the critical role of water management in the context of climate change in Gilgit-Baltistan. The forum unanimously decided to initiate a working paper for establishing a Water Resources Management and Climate Change Section at the Secretariat level and to develop a data based system for comprehensive documentation of water resources glaciers wetlands watersheds and agricultural land for future planning.
The Secretary WM&I thanked all participants and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the water management and irrigation sector to ensure sustainable development and food security in Gilgit-Baltistan.

A meeting was held today at the ETI-GB Head Office Gilgit, under the chairmanship of the Secretary Water Management & Irrigation (WM&I) GB to discuss the formulation of the Gilgit-Baltistan Water Policy. The session was attended by all key stakeholders including the Shersaz consulting team Program Coordinator ETI-GB and the respective Deputy Directors of WM&I who joined both physically and via Zoom.
The Secretary WM&I GB appreciated the collective efforts of all stakeholders and the consultant team in contributing towards the development of the Water Policy emphasizing its importance for the sustainable management of water resources in the region.
Following the policy discussion the Secretary WM&I GB reviewed the ongoing progress of ILD schemes across GB. He expressed serious concern regarding delays and stressed the need for timely completion of all schemes under the mandate of WM&I Department GB.
The Program Coordinator ETI-GB thanked all participants for their cooperation and acknowledged the dedicated role played by the line department and consultant team in moving the policy formulation process forward.

The Secretary Water Management & Irrigation (WM&I) Gilgit-Baltistan briefed the Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan on the ongoing departmental activities and strategic priorities across the region. During the briefing the Secretary highlighted the critical role of water management and irrigation in the current era of climate change emphasizing the need for modern approaches to safeguard GB’s water resources.
He stated that the WM&I Department is committed to strengthening its institutional capacity to meet emerging challenges integrating research and development and adopting technology based solutions for improved water governance. The Secretary reaffirmed the department’s vision to align with future demands and enhance service delivery for sustainable water resource management.
The Chief Minister acknowledged that Gilgit-Baltistan serves as the water tower of Pakistan providing vital water resources to the plains and supporting the country’s agriculture sector. He noted the immense potential found in the region’s wetlands glaciers, and snow deposits stressing the importance of scientific management and knowledge based practices to ensure long term sustainability.
Discussing future initiatives the Chief Minister added that the upcoming flood sector project holds significant importance for mitigating regional flood risks and strengthening climate resilience. He assured full cooperation and institutional support to reinforce the WM&I Department as a key public sector entity dedicated to resource management and public welfare.

Mr. Sibtain Ahmad has assumed charge as Secretary WM&I Department Government of Gilgit-Baltistan today. Here is a brief introduction of his services in GB government.Mr. Sibtain Ahmad completed his graduation from the University of the Punjab He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Bristol UK.
He joined the Gilgit-Baltistan Civil Service as an Assistant Commissioner in 2002. During his career he served as Deputy Commissioner of Diamer Ghizer and Gilgit and was the first Commissioner of Gilgit.
Mr. Ahmad has also held several key positions including Secretary Home & Prisons Secretary to the Chief Minister Secretary S&GAD Secretary Agriculture Secretary Education Secretary Local Government & Rural Development and Secretary Communications & Works Gilgit-Baltistan.

A major milestone was achieved by the Water Management and Irrigation Department GB with the publication of the Water User Association Act in the Gazette of Pakistan. This act establishes regulations for local bodies to improve water management in the agriculture sector helping to empower farming communities to sustainably maintain and operate irrigation infrastructure.
