What You Need to Know
Current students, or those who apply for a study permit before November 1, are not impacted by new PGWP field of study eligibility rules.
Thereโs still timeโapply for a study permit before November 1 to help students get ahead of these changes.
As of November 1, all current and future PGWP applicants will need to prove they meet new language level requirements when they apply for PGWP, as detailed below.
For all students who submit their study permit application on or after November 1:
University students (in bachelorโs degree, masterโs degree, or PhD programs) must prove they meet level 7 language requirements* when they apply for PGWP, but all fields of study remain eligible for PGWP.
College students (or any student not included in the above) must prove they meet level 5 language requirements* when they apply for PGWP, and must graduate from an eligible field of study in order to qualify for PGWP.
Currently eligible fields of study include agriculture, healthcare, STEM, trade, and transport.
