Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) organized the first-ever “Open Kachehri” at Hattar Industrial Estate, providing a platform for local residents, workers, and industrial stakeholders to highlight the pressing issues faced by the industrial zone.
Mr. Safeer Akhtar Awan, General Secretary HIA and Member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Board, attended the event as Chief Guest and listened to the concerns of participants while briefing them on the initiatives undertaken by KPEZDMC for the development of Hattar Industrial Estate.
The event was also attended by Mr. Faisal Atiq, Chairman ZFC; Mr. Muhammad Atta Ur Rehman Yousafzai, Acting Chairman Hattar Industrialists Association (HIA); Mr. Faisal Aziz, Zone Manager Hattar Economic Zone;Mr. Ammar Director Haidery Board and others.
Addressing the participants, Mr. Safeer Akhtar Awan announced that KPEZDMC’s Business Development Committee has approved development funds worth PKR 6.5 billion for the upgradation of infrastructure in Hattar Industrial Zone, and practical work will commence soon.
To resolve traffic congestion and parking issues, a 10-acre Truck Terminal is being established, while a Police Facilitation Center will be developed on 4 kanals of land. Under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and with the support of Qarshi Industries, a state-of-the-art hospital and burn unit worth PKR 480 million will be established on 4 kanals of land, marking a historic milestone for workers and the local community.
Industrialists highlighted that despite annual electricity bill payments exceeding PKR 103 billion, the estate has not been provided even a single WAPDA lineman.
Zone Manager Hattar Economic Zone, Mr. Faisal Aziz, emphasized that industrial growth and workers’ welfare are inseparable, adding that wastewater treatment plants and plantation campaigns remain among KPEZDMC’s top priorities.
Mr. Muhammad Atta Ur Rehman Yousafzi, Acting Chairman HIA, stated that excessive taxation could slow industrial activity and stressed the need for government support to sustain economic growth. ZFC Chairman and TEVTA Member, Mr. Faisal Atiq, strongly emphasized that workers’ funds must be spent exclusively on labor welfare, noting that despite 30,000 registered workers and annual allocations of PKR 600 million through Social Security, workers are still deprived of basic facilities.
During the Open Kachehri, participants raised serious concerns regarding encroachments, damaged roads, severe traffic congestion, road blockages, pollution, and the deteriorating sewerage system.
The event concluded with appreciation for Qarshi Industries and KPEZDMC for facilitating the establishment of a modern hospital and burn unit in Hattar, a landmark initiative for the welfare of industrial workers and the local population.
