Chapel Proposal in Senegal Uses Local Materials to Unite the Community

Taking third place in the recently-concluded Kaira Looro competition to design a multi-faith place of worship for the community of Tanaf in Senegal, this design by Sean Cassidy and Joe Wilson proposes a circular chapel with a sunken exterior moat in which locals can privately reflect and pray. Meanwhile, the central sanctum is designed to be constructed by locals with handmade clay bricks, forming a design which, as Cassidy and Wilson explain, "literally comes from the 'God given land'" that the community equally "can take pride in and call their own upon completion."

Wooden houses are a more ecological and economic alternative than homes made of traditional brick and concrete. Wood is not only a part of nature, but its use is beneficial for the environment. These wooden homes are made from natural, non-petroleum materials that are recyclable and biodegradable and are also considered 'ecological'. The wood used in sustainable construction is certified and originate in responsible logging: the manufacturers plant new trees for each tree they fell. For them, maintaining this balance is important.

Besides, building with wood requires less energy, has a lower environmental impact and smaller carbon footprint than conventional building methods: wood absorbs CO2.

My dear friends!
A Civil Engineer is not an Architect.
A Structural Engineer is not an Architect.
A Builder is not an Architect.
A Contractor is not an Architect.
An INTERIOR DESIGNER is not an Architect.
A Draftsman is not an Architect.
A person who supplies material for interior designing is not an Architect.
A Carpenter is not an Architect.
A Product Designer is not an Architect.
A Graphic Designer is not an Architect.
An Artist is not an Architect.
A person who does Aari work and Embroidery work is not an Architect.
A person who makes silk thread bangles is not an Architect.
A Tailor is not an Architect.
A Fashion Designer is not an Architect.
A Beautician is not an Architect.
An Architecture Student is not an Architect.

• A person who has dedicated 5 years of time in undergraduation in a registered Architecture college with 1 or 2 practical trainings(6 months or 1 year),
• A person who has got an approval to practice Architecture with a unique COA number from the Council of Architecture constituted by the Government of Pakistan under the provisions of the Architects Act,1983
• A person who has the authority to use green ink,
• A person who takes up the responsibility to enhance the lifestyle of a society through designing shelters that are sustainable,
• A person who can think about the homeless population and who can come up with affordable housing solutions,
• A person who takes up the responsibility to go to PRISON if the building fails,
is an “ARCHITECT”

So my dear friends, next time when you meet an Architect, don't end up telling,
"Hey, I know a girl next door who has good talent in making crafts.She is a very good Architect!"
OR
"I am an Interior Design Architect"(lol,such thing doesn't exist)
OR
"I want my daughter to pursue Architecture-because this is a career for women-you make plans sitting at home and can earn in crores-very helpful to take care of your newborn child"(2 mins silence for these people)
These statements show that you are as great as one of our CMs who came up with a gem statement, "Civil Engineers should go to CIVIL services.
Remember, Architecture is a professional course.It demands a lot from you.
P.S. I am not saying the above mentioned professions are any lesser than being an Architect.We all coexist.

Today, the bathroom is not just a dark and unfavorable space like the old one. Today's bathroom can be a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere.
Architecture has a variety of solutions for converting old bathrooms into better quality space.
Among the solutions used in this project, we can mention the separation of wet and dry spaces, as well as the use bathroom design standards for changing toilets and sink from entrance to beside.
And finally, by using the right lighting combination, the space can be shown more optimally.
