The 213m high and 760m long Concrete Faced Rockfill Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project is proposed as a multipurpose reservoir type scheme serving the needs of irrigation, power generation and flood control The project is located in the Swat River basin, about 5km upstream of the existing Munda Head-works at Abazai near Shabqadar Deri, in NWFP, 37km north of Peshawar. The reservoir area of the dam extends upstream to Mohmand and Bajaur Agencies, in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The total length of the reservoir is about 56km in the rocky gorge of the Swat River. The area is formed by barren and rugged hills and basins. The command area is spread across three administrative units namely, Mohmand Agency, Malakand Agency and Tehsil Tangi of district Charsadda.
SMEC are the lead firm of the consortium to provide Detailed Engineering Design and Preparation of Tender Documents for the multipurpose dam Project, which includes 740MW hydropower station and 30km of 220kV transmission line.
