President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Imran, Calls for Strike at Sost Dryport.
In a recent statement, the President of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GBCCI), Mr. Imran, announced the commencement of a strike at Sost Dryport. This action comes in response to the Pakistan Customs' reluctance to operate the dryport, which has significantly affected trade activities.
Mr. Imran expressed his frustration, stating, "Pakistan Customs is not ready to run the dryport, so we will start a strike at Sost Dryport."
Adding to the complexity of the situation, a Gilgit-Baltistan court recently issued an order exempting the people of Gilgit-Baltistan from paying sales tax, income tax, and withholding tax. However, the Pakistan Customs Collector indicated that a letter has been forwarded to the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for confirmation. "Once we receive confirmation, we will start the work," he said.
Mr. Imran dismissed this response as a delaying tactic, suggesting that Pakistan Customs intends to approach the high court to challenge the order. As a result, GBCCI has decided to initiate a strike at Sost Dryport and halt all activities starting at 10 am.
The future course of action will be determined tomorrow during a meeting of GBCCI leaders, where they will discuss and decide on further plans.
