This Earth Day, the conversation has evolved - from ambition to accountability.

As climate commitments move beyond declarations, organizations are now being measured on what truly matters: transparency, resilience and credibility. Net-zero targets are no longer aspirational - they carry tangible financial, regulatory and reputational implications.

With increasing scrutiny on Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, and the growing importance of climate scenario analysis in strategic decision-making, businesses must embed climate considerations at the core of governance and reporting.

In Pakistan, this shift is further reinforced by the adoption of IFRS S1 & S2, strengthening expectations around climate-related disclosures and elevating the role of assurance, comparability, and investor confidence.

At CSRCP, we support organizations in navigating this transition - transforming complexity into structured, decision-useful disclosures through:
• IFRS S1 & S2-aligned reporting
• GHG inventory development
• GRI-aligned sustainability reporting
• ESG strategy formulation
• Independent assurance

Because accountability is no longer optional - and neither is action.

Corporate Social Responsibility Centre Pakistan (CSRCP) conducted a customized capacity‑building training for Lucky Core Industries (LCI) in April 2026 to strengthen organizational readiness for sustainability disclosures under IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, aligned with the evolving regulatory direction of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

The session supported LCI’s strategic objective of integrating IFRS S1 requirements across its core business segments, with participation from relevant departments across the organization. Key focus areas included sustainability concepts and disclosures, identification and assessment of sustainability‑related and climate‑related risks and opportunities (SRROs and CRROs), greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and scenario analysis, and assurance readiness. Delivered through an interactive and tailored approach, the training provided practical guidance on governance, risk management and disclosure practices essential for high‑quality, decision‑useful sustainability reporting.

Designed to bridge the gap between regulatory expectations and practical implementation, the session equipped participants with:

· A clear understanding of IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 requirements

· Practical insights into integrating climate risks within financial and sustainability reporting

· Strategies to enhance transparency, governance, and stakeholder confidence

As regulatory expectations continue to evolve, CSRCP remains committed to enabling organizations to build internal capacity, enhance disclosure quality and align with global sustainability standards.

The introduction of the first official Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) certificate price marks a defining milestone in the evolution of global carbon pricing and international trade compliance.

This development reinforces the EU’s commitment to ensuring parity between domestic and imported products in terms of carbon costs, while accelerating the global transition toward low-carbon production systems.

From 2026 onward, CBAM enters its definitive phase, where certificate pricing is calculated based on the average auction prices of allowances under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). Importers will ultimately be required to purchase and surrender CBAM certificates to account for embedded emissions in covered sectors including iron & steel, aluminum, cement, fertilizers, electricity and hydrogen.

This first published price sends a strong signal to exporters, manufacturers and supply chain stakeholders worldwide: carbon is no longer an externality, it is a measurable and payable cost factor shaping competitiveness in international markets.

For industries across developing economies and export-oriented sectors, the implications are clear:

· Cost Competitiveness
· Data & Transparency
· Decarbonization Imperative
· Trade Readiness

The era of carbon-priced trade has begun and preparedness will define competitiveness.

From Waste Management to Value Creation

On this International Day of Zero Waste, the conversation is evolving - from managing waste to redefining it as a driver of efficiency, resilience and strategic value.

Forward-looking organizations are increasingly integrating circular economy principles into their operating models - minimizing waste, optimizing resources and strengthening long-term sustainability performance.

At CSRCP, we support this transition by enabling organizations to:
• Align waste and resource management with ESG strategy
• Assess environmental and operational risks across value chains
• Quantify and manage emissions linked to waste streams
• Enhance transparency through globally aligned sustainability reporting
• Build internal capacity to operationalize zero-waste practices

As expectations from regulators, investors and stakeholders continue to rise, embedding zero-waste principles is becoming a business necessity - not a choice.

The shift starts with strategy. The impact drives value.

Global Recycling Day | Rethinking Waste through an ESG Lens

Every year on Global Recycling Day (18 March), the global community is reminded that waste is not merely an environmental issue - it is a governance, risk management and resource efficiency challenge that organizations must address strategically.

For businesses, effective waste management and recycling practices are increasingly becoming a material ESG consideration, influencing operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, stakeholder trust and long-term sustainability performance.

Integrating recycling and circular economy principles within corporate strategy can help organizations:
• Reduce environmental footprint and resource dependency
• Strengthen climate and environmental risk management
• Enhance transparency through sustainability and ESG disclosures
• Align with global frameworks such as IFRS Sustainability Standards, TCFD recommendations and the UN Sustainable Development Goals

At the Corporate Social Responsibility Centre of Pakistan (CSRCP), we support organizations in advancing responsible environmental practices by providing:
• ESG and sustainability advisory to integrate environmental stewardship into corporate strategy
• Sustainability and climate-related disclosures aligned with global reporting frameworks
• Climate risk and scenario analysis to assess environmental risks and opportunities
• Capacity building and training to strengthen institutional understanding of ESG and sustainability

As the global transition towards a circular economy accelerates, organizations that proactively manage waste, resources and environmental risks will be better positioned to build resilient, responsible and future-ready businesses.

This Global Recycling Day, let us recognize recycling not only as an environmental action-but as a strategic enabler of sustainable economic development.

The landscape of sustainability and ESG reporting in Pakistan is evolving rapidly.

With the introduction of IFRS S1 & IFRS S2, ESG disclosures are moving from voluntary narratives to structured, financially linked reporting. Organizations are now expected to demonstrate stronger governance, climate risk assessment and integration of sustainability into financial decision-making.

This brief insight highlights why IFRS S1 & S2 matter for Pakistan and how organizations can begin preparing for this transition.
