Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) on Sunday identified 22 brands of bottled water as unsafe for human consumption.

According to a report issued by the council, out of 180 brands of bottled water procured from across Pakistan between April and June this year, 22 brands were found to be detrimental to human health.
Samples of 16 brands were found to be chemically unsafe while 6 were found to be microbiologically unsafe.

According to the report, half of the brands found unsafe were being sold in Karachi, adding that the unsafe water contained TDS, arsenic and excessive levels of potassium, besides the germs of infectious diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, hepatitis and typhoid.

The Khyber-Pakhtun­khwa government in Pakistan is seeking World Bank assistance for the development of 88MW run-of-river hydropower project on the Gabral tributary of the Swat river to generate about 339 gigawatt hours of electricity annually.

The World Bank is currently evaluating the project which will be located near the Kalam town in Swat district. The proposed project involves construction of 21-meter high riverbed and 100 meter wide weir with spillways, under sluices, fish ladder, outlet structures and sand trap, according to the project document.

The project will be run-of-river, with a limited reservoir area of fifty acres. The most direct and negative impacts of the project will be on aquatic ecology caused by the construction of a weir and diversion of river flows and land acquisition.

The overall positive impact of the project generating renewable electricity with minimal carbon emission, will be experienced countrywide through the provision of enough energy to power the equivalent of about 116,000 homes per year.

The potential cumulative impact of all existing and planned hydropower projects in the Swat river basin, in the context of the Gabral Kalam hydropower project has been studied and the hydropower development in the basin for the next twenty years.

Ceremony for Signing of Consultancy Agreement - .

Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (P**O) is developing this Project with Asian Development Bank (ADB).

M/s DOLSAR Engineering Inc. Co. as lead firm with other consulting firms AGES, BAK, Civ tech & Electra win the project consultancy contract.

The project envisaged a 58 m high gravity concrete dam with about 9 km long headrace tunnel with 8m internal diameter and an underground powerhouse and Transformer Hall on the left bank of Kunhar River. The dam axis was, identified 18.6 km upstream of town Balakot, headrace tunnel on the left bank and the powerhouse will be located in near the village of Barkot, 8.0 km upstream of Balakot town.

The project is proposed on River originates from the glaciers above Lulu sir Lake in the Valley of . The river flows at its bloom during summers due to the fall tributary offshoots and melting snow Glaciers from well-known peaks and lakes.
The major upstream projects on Kunhar River are 884MW Suki Kinari, 188MW Naran HPP and 102 MW Batakundi Hydropower Projects however 147MW Patrind Power Project is the downstream of proposed Balakot project.

Hydel Generation on the Rise:
WAPDA hydel generation surpasses 8500 MW for first time
8757 MW delivered to National Grid during peak hours

August 27, 2020: Electricity generation of hydel power stations owned and operated by Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) surpassed 8500 megawatt (MW) mark for the first time in Pakistan, as WAPDA provided 8757 MW of electricity to the National Grid during peak hours the other day. Previously, the record of hydel power generation was 8474 MW delivered to the system on September 11, last year.

This record generation of hydel electricity by WAPDA is the result of higher reservoir level at Tarbela and Mangla dams, increased water outflows as per indent by Indus River System Authority (IRSA) and effective operation of WAPDA hydel power stations.

The statistics of the record hydel generation during the peak hours show that Tarbela Hydel Power Station generated 3331 MW, Tarbela 4th Extension 1410 MW, Ghazi Barotha 1450 MW¬, Mangla Hydel Power Station 915 MW and Neelum Jhelum 870 MW while other hydel power stations cumulatively shared 781 MW to the National Grid.
The installed capacity of WAPDA hydel power stations has risen to 9389 MW with phased completion of its three mega hydropower projects namely the 969 MW-Neelum Jhelum, the 1410 MW-Tarbela 4th Extension, and the 108 MW-Golen Gol.
At present, WAPDA owns and operates 22 hydel power stations, including Neelum Jhelum. WAPDA is well on its way and work on three mega projects including Diamer Basha Dam, Dasu Hydropower Project and Mohmand Dam is under way, adding 9500 MW on their commissioning.

27 اگست 2020 ء ……واپڈا پن بجلی گھروں کی پیداوار پاکستان کی تاریخ میں پہلی بار ساڑھے 8 ہزار میگاواٹ کی حد عبور کر گئی۔گزشتہ روز پیک آورزکے دوران واپڈا پن بجلی گھروں سے نیشنل گرڈ کو 8 ہزار 757 میگاواٹ بجلی مہیا کی گئی۔ اِس سے قبل پیک آوارز کے دوران واپڈا پن بجلی گھروں سے قومی نظام کو زیادہ سے زیادہ بجلی فراہم کرنے کا ریکارڈ8 ہزار 474میگاواٹ تھا جو گزشتہ سال 11ستمبر کو قائم ہوا تھا۔

تربیلا اور منگلا کے آبی ذخائر میں پانی کی بلند سطح، ارسا کی ہدایت پر آبی ذخائر سے پانی کا زیادہ اخراج اور واپڈا پن بجلی گھروں کا مؤثر آپریشن پیک آوارز کے دوران پن بجلی کی اِس ریکارڈ ساز پیداوار کی بنیادی وجوہات ہیں۔

اعداد و شمار کے مطابق گزشتہ روز پیک آوارز کے دوران تربیلا ہائیڈل پاور سٹیشن سے نیشنل گرڈ کو 3331 میگاواٹ بجلی فراہم کی گئی۔ تربیلا چوتھے توسیعی پن بجلی گھر سے 1410 میگاواٹ، جبکہ غازی بروتھا سے 1450 میگاواٹ، نیلم جہلم ہائیڈل پاور سٹیشن سے 870 میگاواٹ اور منگلا ہائیڈل سٹیشن سے 915میگاواٹ بجلی مہیا کی گئی۔ جبکہ باقی 781 میگاواٹ بجلی واپڈا کے دیگر پن بجلی گھروں سے مجموعی طور پر نیشنل گرڈ کو فراہم کی گئی۔

واپڈا کے پن بجلی گھروں کی تعداد 22ہے جن کی مجموعی پیداوار 9 ہزار 389میگاواٹ ہے۔ اِس وقت واپڈا دیا مر بھاشا ڈیم، داسو ہائیڈرو پاور پراجیکٹ اور مہمند ڈیم کے تین بڑے منصوبوں پر کام کر رہا ہے۔جن کی تکمیل پر واپڈا پن بجلی کی پیداوار ی صلاحیت میں مزید ساڑھے 9 ہزار میگاواٹ اضافہ ہو جائے گا۔

وزیراعلیٰ پنجاب سردار عثمان بزدار کی زیر صدارت اعلیٰ سطح کا اجلاس ہوا-

اجلاس میں کوہ سلیمان کی رودکوہیوں کے پانی کو ضائع ہونے سے بچانے کیلئے چھوٹے ڈیمز بنانے کے حوالے سے امور کا جائزہ لیا گیا، وزیراعلی عثمان بزدار نے علاقے میں 4 سمال ڈیمز پر ابتدائی کام شروع کرنے کی اصولی منظوری دے دی

وزیراعلیٰ پنجاب عثمان بزدار کا کہنا تھا کہ پانی کے ذخیرے کیلئے چھوٹے ڈیم بناناوقت کی ضرورت ہے۔ پنجاب حکومت چھوٹے ڈیمز کے لئے مختلف آپشن پر غور کررہی ہے۔کوہ سلیمان کی رودکوہیوں میں ہر سال لاکھوں کیوسک پانی ضائع ہوتاہے۔ اس قیمتی پانی کو محفوظ بنانے اوراستعمال لانے کیلئے سمال ڈیمز کا منصوبہ اہمیت کا حامل ہے۔

وزیراعلیٰ پنجاب عثمان بزدار کا مزید کہنا تھا کہ چھوٹے ڈیموں کی تعمیر سے پسماندہ علاقوں کے لوگوں کو پینے کا صاف پانی میسر آئے گا۔ پہلے مرحلے میں چار سمال ڈیمز کی تعمیر کیلئے ٹیکنیکل سٹڈی کی جاری ہے۔

اجلاس میں سیکرٹری آبپاشی نے وزیراعلیٰ عثمان بزدار کو سمال ڈیمز کی تعمیر کے منصوبے کے اہم امور سے آگاہ کیا،صوبائی وزیر حافظ ممتاز احمد،چیف سیکرٹری،چیئرمین منصوبہ وترقیات،سیکرٹری خزانہ،سیکرٹری آبپاشی اورسپیشل مانیٹرنگ یونٹ کے سربراہ نے اجلاس میں شرکت کی
