A Fulfilling Chapter Ends, but the Commitment Continues
As my 3-year term as an elected Member of the Board of Governors at IBA Karachi comes to an end, I want to reflect on what has been a truly rewarding journey.
Serving my alma mater in this capacity has been an honor. And to clarify a common perception — during my tenure, I experienced complete independence with zero pressure or interference in my role.
I’ve decided not to seek re-election, as I strongly believe in fresh perspectives. I encourage passionate alumni to step forward and contribute as there is a always more room for improvement. To ensure broader participation, I proposed — and the Board approved — a maximum of two consecutive terms for elected alumni going forward.
Some milestones during my tenure:
- IBA received AACSB Accreditation, placing it among the top global business schools.
- Over Rs 1 billion in annual financial aid now supports 1 in 3 students — making IBA more inclusive and accessible than ever before.
- Board governance strengthened: regular quarterly meetings, and activation of key committees (Audit & Finance, HR) — aligned with global best practices.
- Successful launch of the IBA Alumni Chapter Charter, ensuring consistent governance across all chapter. Many new chapters were formed and now we have 14 active alumni chapters worldwide.
- Organization of impactful events like IBA Alumni Excellence Awards, Town Halls, Leaders’ Connect, Advisory Council and dozens of reunions.
- Few new initiatives like IBA Alumni Premier League (Cricket), IBA AlumFest (Family Festival), HerLegacy Campaign (women-led), IBA Alumni Startup Summit, Hostel Reunion, IBA Alumni Magazine, IBA Alumni CEO Directory and many more
Thank you to the 22,000+ IBA alumni for your trust, Dr. Akbar Zaidi for his leadership, and my fellow Board members and faculty and IBA staff for their support.
Special appreciation to Shams Zoha Jafri, Naheed Merchant, and Moeid Sultan for their tireless work — and to Malahat Awan and her dynamic alumni team for driving real impact.
IBA shaped who I am. And while this formal role ends, my commitment continues — always here to support IBA and its community in any way I can.
