United States President Donald Trump has said any agreement with Iran would have to be “great and meaningful”, warning that otherwise there would be no deal.

In a statement on social media platform Truth Social, Trump said politicians opposing the possible agreement with Iran were presenting the matter in a misleading manner. He added that Democratic senators had repeatedly supported what he described as failed policies.

Trump said any future agreement with Iran would be entirely different from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action reached during the administration of former president Barack Obama.

Criticising the 2015 nuclear accord, Trump described the agreement as “a direct and open path to a nuclear weapon for Iran”.

“The deal with Iran will either be a great and meaningful one, or there will be no deal,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He added: “No, I don’t do deals like that.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Premier Li Qiang reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation, accelerating CPEC projects and strengthening ties in technology, security and economic development.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on Monday, where the two leaders witnessed the signing of several memorandums of understanding and agreements aimed at expanding Pakistan-China cooperation across multiple sectors.

The high-level meeting took place as Pakistan and China mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Sharif thanked Premier Li Qiang for the warm reception and reiterated that Pakistan’s long-standing strategic cooperative partnership with China remains a cornerstone of Islamabad’s foreign policy.

The prime minister said the “iron friendship” between Pakistan and China is built on mutual trust, strategic cooperation, peace, development and a shared commitment to prosperity.

Both sides reaffirm support on core interests
During the meeting, both leaders reiterated their commitment to fully support each other on issues related to their core national interests.

The two sides reviewed all aspects of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction over the continued growth of cooperation in political, economic, strategic, security and people-to-people exchanges.

The KSE-100 extended its upward momentum, closing at 172,894 points, up 1,189 points (+0.69% DoD), in another constructive session supported by broad-based participation across major sectors.

Gold price hits Rs499,962 per tola in Pakistan

Gold and silver prices once again increased in both local and international markets after a day’s gap, according to the All Pakistan Sarafa Association.

In Pakistan, the price of 24-karat gold per tola increased by Rs 4,600, reaching Rs 499,962. Similarly, the price of 10 grams of gold rose by Rs 3,943 to Rs 428,636.

Silver prices also recorded an increase, with per tola silver rising by Rs 326 to reach Rs 8,260.

In the global market, gold saw a significant increase of $46 per ounce, reaching $4,776.

Market experts say fluctuations in international demand and economic uncertainty are continuing to push precious metal prices higher.

A day earlier, gold prices dropped significantly, with the per tola rate falling by Rs1,600 to close at Rs495,362. Similarly, the price for 10 grams declined by Rs1,371, settling at Rs424,693.

The international bullion market also reflected a decline, with gold losing $16 per ounce to trade around $4,730.

Silver prices in Pakistan followed the downward trend, with the per tola rate decreasing by Rs130 to reach Rs7,934.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened the new trading week under pressure following the announcement by the United States of a potential blockade on Iranian ports.

Dollar steady as US blocks Iranian ships, diplomacy presses on

The dollar index , which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies including the yen and ​the euro, rose 0.05% to 98.39, hovering near its lowest since March 2, the first trading day after the ​U.S.-Israeli war with Iran erupted.

The dollar's seven-day losing streak would be its first since December last year.

The ⁠euro rose 0.02% to $1.1759, while sterling tacked on 0.01% to $1.3505.. The yen edged up 0.16% to 159.19 per dollar.
