SECMC was established with the vision “To develop a technically and commercially viable Coal Mining Project in Thar Block – II to bring energy security to Pakistan via local untapped reserves”



The total reserves of block II are sufficient to support 5000MW of energy for 50 years; enough to pull the country out of the energy crisis.

This week SECMC will be at UNCCD COP17 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia held under the theme "Restoring Land. Restoring Hope." Across three high-level engagements, CEO Amir Iqbal joins government, industry and international leaders on land restoration, nature-positive business and responsible critical minerals development:

- 24 August: SECMC featured as a case study at the launch of a new IUCN report, Business for Nature: Private-Sector Solutions to Land Degradation and Desertification in Asian Drylands, supported by the Ant Forest Foundation

- 25 August: "Leading the Land Transition: CEOs Driving Nature-Positive Business," a CEO roundtable convened by IMAR Engineering Consultants and Climate Solutions

- 25 August: Business Council of Mongolia's Critical Minerals Advisory Council roundtable on responsible critical minerals development

Mining Technical Conference 2026 brought together the people and institutions shaping Pakistan’s mining landscape, from government and industry to academia, technology providers and global experts.

Hosted by SECMC, the conference created a national platform to exchange knowledge, connect operational experience with technical expertise and explore the skills, technology, partnerships and frameworks needed needed to support the sector’s long-term growth and development.

Building on this momentum, the focus ahead is clear: a more connected, resilient and future-ready mining ecosystem contributing to Pakistan’s economic and energy future.
