British delegation visits Chaukandi Tombs, praises Sindh’s heritage preservation

Mr. Tom Burge, Deputy High Commissioner of Britain, along with other officials, visited the historic Chaukandi Tombs.

They were deeply impressed by the intricate stone carvings and the ongoing preservation work. The delegation also appreciated the efforts of the Directorate General Antiquities & Archaeology Department, Sindh in protecting our cultural treasures.

Today, representatives from all provincial Population Welfare Departments, Federal Officers, NGO partners, and UN members came together for a memorable visit to the Quaid-e-Azam House Museum (Flag Staff House).
​The visit offered a profound look into the life, leadership, and lasting legacy of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Walking through the beautifully preserved historic building and viewing his personal belongings provided everyone with a deeper appreciation of the history and foundation of Pakistan.
​It was an inspiring reminder of the vision that continues to guide our collective efforts toward a prosperous Pakistan. 🇵🇰

*Venue: Rumi Graveyard, Karachi (beside the office of Exploration & Excavation Branch)*

Date: 8th June 2026 till 15th June 2016

The Exploration & Excavation Branch successfully conducted a four day workshop on Preservation & Conservation utilizing traditional vernacular techniques under the guidance of Dr. Mark Kenoyer.

Day 1:

Participants learned the theoretical foundations of preservation and conservation, with a special focus on vernacular techniques and their significance in archaeological heritage management.

Day 2:

The practical phase commenced with the construction of a traditional kiln for metal smelting. Burnt bricks were carefully arranged and mud plaster was applied to prepare the kiln structure, which was then left to dry naturally.

Day 3:

The kiln was prepared for firing using coal. Initial temperature

A UNICEF delegation recently visited the historic Kotdiji Fort to experience the rich cultural heritage and historical significance of Sindh.

Accompanied by officials from Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO), the visit was arranged by Bilawal Solangi, Safeer-e-Sindh to promote Sindh’s heritage, tourism, and historical identity on an international platform.

We were absolutely delighted to welcome renowned journalist **Ms. Saule Pauline** all the way from Latvia to the historic city of Thatta today!

Ms. Pauline spent her day exploring the breathtaking landscapes and awe-inspiring architecture of the **Makli Necropolis**, one of the largest funerary sites in the world. From the intricate stone carvings to the towering brick monuments, she immersed herself deeply in the rich, vibrant cultural and historical heritage of Sindh.

A visit to Kotdiji Fort, Khairpur, was conducted with Dr. Nafeesa Shah, MNA Khairpur, to review the historical significance and tourism potential of this important heritage site.
During the visit, discussions focused on the preservation, conservation, and promotion of the fort as a major cultural and tourism destination in Sindh.

The need for enhanced heritage management, visitor facilities, and greater public awareness was highlighted to showcase Kot Diji Fort’s rich history and attract both domestic and international tourists. The visit reaffirmed the importance of protecting this valuable historical landmark for future generations.
