We are not allowed to wish someone Merry Xmas whoever they are....
Firstly one need to understand What Christmas is all about?
Nowadays on 25th December, Christian celebrates the Birthday of Jesus Christ ('Aalyhi Salaam) as begotten son of GOD...
By wishing Merry Christmas one agrees that Jesus Christ ('Aalyhi Salaam) is begotten son of GOD which is Shirk (associating partner with ALLAH)....
As clearly mentioned in the Holy Quran....
He begets not, nor was He begotten.
(Surah Al-Ikhlas -Ch: 112 | Verse: 3)
And Shirk is heinous sin of all as mentioned in Holy Quran....
"ALLAH forgives not that partners should be set up with Him; but He forgive anything else, to whom He please; to set up partners with Allah is to devise a sin Most heinous indeed...
(Surah An-Nisa - Ch: 4 | Verse: 48)
Verily, whosoever sets up partners (do shirk) with ALLAH, ALLAH has forbidden Paradise to him, and the Fire will be his abode.
(Surah Al-Maeda -Ch: 5 | Verse: 72)
Secondly It is not permissible for any Muslim to join or cooperate in the festivals of the Non Believers....as mentioned in Hadith..
"Who imitates non-Muslims he is one of them..."
[Imams Ahmad and Abu Dawood].
The Prophet Mohammad (SalAllahu 'Aalayhi Wa Sallam) warned us against imitating them and adopting their ways....
Hence a Muslim should not greeting anyone on this occasion or get involve to receive greetings..
It is an integral part of our faith to reject celebrations that lead to misguidance and alterations in faith. It is our basic right to protect our faith and practice from distortion and falsehood....
Secondly.....
Celebration of Christmas as Birth of Jesus('Aalyhi Salaam) has no base. There is no certain tradition of the date of Christ's birth, some say it’s on March 25... some December 25....The Truth is that 25th December is the day of Roman Pagan festival or the winter solstice marking the "Birthday of the unconquered sun. In the Roman world the Saturnalia (December 17) was a time of merrymaking and exchange of gifts. December 25 was also regarded as the birth date of the Iranian mystery god Mithra, the Sun of Righteousness. On the Roman New Year (January 1), houses were decorated with greenery and lights, and gifts were given to children and the poor. German and Celtic Yule rites when the Teutonic tribes penetrated into Gaul, Britain, and central Europe. Food and good fellowship, the Yule log and Yule cakes, greenery and fir trees, and gifts and greetings all commemorated different aspects of this festive season. Fires and lights, symbols of warmth and lasting life, have always been associated with the winter festival, both pagan and Christian. Since the European Middle Ages, evergreens, as symbols of survival, have been associated with Christmas...
We Muslims respect Jesus ('Aalyhi Salaam) and hence don't celebrate some fabricated event that was chosen to coincide with pagan festivals and copy pagan customs. ...
Rather than one should guide the Christians to Stop following Pagan Customs......
May GOD guide us all....ameen
