Workshop on ‘Using Social Media as a Strategic Tool of Communication’
KARACHI: With Pakistan's Social Media landscape fast evolving and growing, a day-long workshop on Using Social Media as a Strategic Tool of Communication was conducted by Beena Sarwar, in collaboration with Milestone Lead Management Consulting, on April 25 2016, at the Pakistan Society of Training and Development (PSTD) in Karachi.
The workshop take-aways include learning about new social media platforms, taking different approaches to using social media, integrating multiple media platforms to meet communication objectives, do’s and don’ts of using social media and an interesting ‘drip irrigation’ analogy highlighting the importance of consistent and continuous input to a social media campaign over a long period of time for building retention and recall of the communication message. The methodology included instructor-led learning, group discussions and short cases.
Participants, representing a diverse group from the media, utility, education, non-profit and corporate sectors, found the workshop to be interactive and informative and recommended more industry-specific and structured programs on the subject.
This day-long session demonstrated the increasing complexity of managing the total media mix in today’s environment, integrating above-the-line and social media platforms and highlighted the need for building organizational capacity in this important domain of media and communications management.
