Your copy wonโt SELL any products if you don't know this.
(And yes, I'll prove that this isn't just a hook, but a 100% reality check.)
You see, we've heard a lot about Direct Response Copywriting.
We all have seen and heard when they sayโฆ
โMy words will skyrocket your salesโ
But is that really true?
If it is,
What's the science behind it?
What's the "HOW" behind it?
{In my last post, I discussed the "WHAT" behind DR copywriting. Please take a look if you haven't already.}
So, here we go.
HOW:
I've divided the whole process into 4 stages,
And have described how each one connects to the othersโฆ
And how they combine to make someone actually buy.
1. Make them listen to you
You probably know about using intriguing headlines or hooks and clear language.
These are indeed part of this stage,
But here is whatโs important to know.
Imagine you're reading a post...
And you hit a word you don't know the meaning of.
Would you Google it just to understand that random post?
Especially when you have countless other things to read or watch (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram reels - you get it)?
So, would you google?
Nah. ( at least I wonโt )
`Cuz It's not your homework, right?
So, using simple, easy, and familiar language,
Is the first requirement to later make someone buy from you.
Remember, if no one gets what you're saying...
What's the point of talking?
2. Talk about them
To make someone read your post, using familiar words isn't enough.
You need to talk directly to the reader.
You have to use their language (words, phrases, or shorthand they use in private conversations).
Talk about their problems, fears, guilts, hopes, and dreams.
Get inside their heads.
What keeps them tossing and turning at 3 AM?
What's that one thing they'd never admit to their best friend?
Include everything they would love to hear or be surprised to hear from you.
Only then will they keep reading.
Because it's not for anyone else - it's for them directly.
These first two points set the stage for the third (the real game-changer).
3. Convince them through logical and believable arguments
(Although itโs part of the whole copy, you gotta know this.)
When they've read your whole copyโฆ
Have understood every word of itโฆ
And have been surprised by how well you know them and their private thoughtsโฆ
It's time to convince them to agree with your point.
Use numbers, experiment results, or any other real and genuine evidenceโฆ
To convince them that their problem can only be solved with one solution i.e. Your product.
Itโs where you crush their doubts.
Break their old beliefs.
`Cuz that's how you pave the way for your mission: make them buy.
4. Tell them what to do next
Until this point,
You've made them read your post,
understand everything you're saying,
won their trust (by showing how well you know them),
and convinced them of your points.
Now is the time for a clear call to action.
Time to tell them exactly how to get your product:
What happens when they hit that CTA button?
How does the payment process work?
What does using the product look like?
This is also the stage where you give a guarantee and handle their objections. ( will talk about them in upcoming posts)
Anyways, these are the 4 stages of DR copywritingโฆ
And these are purely based on the natural process of how people listen, trust, and get convinced.
It's simple, but it works.
But wait, did you notice?
I've given you the complete structure of a sales letter or sales page.
It shows how step by step you make your reader's mind prepared to click on the 'buy now' button.
So, this is it for nowโฆ
Hope you learned sth, sth valuable, sth you didnโt know before.
P.S. Want to know why DR copywriting is the lifeblood of so many businesses? I'm spilling all the tea in my next post. So keep an eye out!
