Looking at this deflected building in , somewhere a structural designer is smiling from corner because what happened here was predictable and should have been sort out using appropriate local seismic design spectrum. The large lateral displacement, excessive drift, and the formation of plastic hinges at the beam-column joints are responses that any structural engineer can predict through structural analysis software or even by hand calculations—before construction.

The building has suffered severe structural damage, but fortunately it did not collapse completely during the first earthquake wave; otherwise, hundreds of lives and significant property could have been lost.

also located near the active Himalayan and Hindu Kush fault region, particularly the KP and Kashmir. Its an eye opener for everyone that earthquake resistant design is not optional, its a Must. Time to consult qualified structural engineers before starting your next project.
