Pakistan’s solar capacity is growing fast, with solar module imports reaching about 17 GW in 2024, but energy storage is lagging behind. The country imported 1.25 GWh of lithium-ion batteries in 2024 and another 400 MWh in early 2025, showing steady growth despite heavy taxes and duties that make imported storage 48% more expensive. In contrast, solar panels face only a 10% sales tax, encouraging rapid PV expansion. Industry leaders say faster deployment of battery storage is needed to match solar growth and ensure reliable power.
