A geological outcrop tells a story, but a well-prepared field sketch preserves that story long after leaving the field.

During geological mapping, detailed outcrop sketches are one of the most valuable tools for recording lithological contacts, structural features, alteration zones, mineralization, shears, faults, fractures, and the spatial relationship between different rock units. While photographs capture the appearance of an outcrop, sketches allow geologists to highlight critical observations and interpretations that may not be obvious in images alone.

The attached sketch was prepared in the field to document the distribution of ultramafic rocks, structural discontinuities, alteration patterns, and potential mineralized zones. Such sketches form an essential part of exploration data collection and often serve as the foundation for geological interpretation, targeting, and resource evaluation.

Good mapping is not just about observing rocks—it's about accurately recording geological information so it can be understood, analyzed, and utilized long after the fieldwork is completed.
