PV DC Protection β The First Line of Safety on the DC Side
A solar PV system continuously generates DC voltage whenever sufficient sunlight is available. Unlike AC, DC current does not naturally pass through a zero-crossing point, making proper DC protection and isolation particularly important.
πΉ DC Fuse
PV fuses provide overcurrent protection where required, particularly in systems with multiple parallel strings.
Fuse selection should consider:
Module Isc
Maximum series fuse rating
String configuration
Maximum system voltage
Applicable standards
πΉ DC Isolator
A properly rated DC isolator allows the PV array to be safely disconnected from the inverter for maintenance, inspection or emergency conditions.
The isolator must be specifically rated for the systemβs DC voltage and current.
πΉ DC SPD
A Surge Protective Device (SPD) helps protect PV equipment against transient overvoltages caused by lightning-induced surges and switching events.
Correct SPD selection depends on factors such as:
Maximum PV voltage + Earthing arrangement + System configuration + Protection concept
βοΈ Professional Protection Concept
PV Strings β String Protection β DC SPD β DC Isolation β Inverter
The exact arrangement is not identical for every installation. It depends on the number of strings, inverter architecture, system voltage, earthing, cable routing and applicable electrical standards.
Engineering Point
Installing protection devices is only the beginning.
Correct rating + proper coordination + correct installation = effective protection.
At MK Solar Energy, we believe a reliable solar system is designed not only for energy production, but also for safety, protection and long-term performance.
