Most loyalty professionals still underuse psychology in their programs – and that’s a missed opportunity. 🤯

Last year at Sparta Loyalty Academy, we asked participants:

“How much do you use psychological mechanisms in your loyalty programs?”

🎯Here’s the fast fact from that live poll:

👥 42 industry professionals responded

📊 The average answer was just 43.5 out of 100

This tells me two things:

⚫️ Many programs still rely mainly on mechanics (points, discounts, tiers) 🧮

⚫️ There’s huge upside for brands that consciously apply behavioral science – from goal-gradient and pre‑progress effects to smart framing and hyperbolic discounting – in their loyalty design 💡

This is not a pricing problem. It is a perceived value problem:

⚫️ Benefits are too generic or hard to understand 🧩

⚫️ Activation journeys are weak, so members never build a habit 🚶‍♂️

⚫️ Communication is sporadic, irrelevant, or overly promotional 📣
