It's a privilege to lead Mentoring F2F Foundation - an organisation run 100% by volunteers.

On June 8th I stood in Klub Studio in Kraków, Poland and watched something I'll carry with me for a long time: mentees, mentors, STEM students and professionals, 50+ volunteers, partners and speakers - all in one room, around one belief. Nobody had to be there. Everybody showed up. That's not something you can organise. It's something a community builds together.

And the more I sat with it, the clearer the bigger picture became.

The pipeline isn't the problem. Retention is. In Poland, women earn over 40% of STEM degrees - yet make up just 22% of engineers in industry and 28% of senior leadership worldwide (Eurostat 2024; WEF 2025). They start. And they leave. Not for lack of skill - for lack of support. At today's pace, closing the global gender gap will take 123 years (WEF, Global Gender Gap Report 2025). No field can afford to wait that long for half its talent.

This is the gap MentoringF2F Foundation exists to close - and on June 8th, I watched the model do exactly what it's built to do.

Mentoring isn't a feel-good add-on. It's talent infrastructure. By 2030, 39% of today's skills will be obsolete (WEF, Future of Jobs Report 2025), and the capabilities that will define the next decade - resilience, judgement, leadership - aren't coded by an algorithm. They're passed from person to person.

A huge thank-you to our 'Kobiety Rakiety 2026" conference leader Krystyna Brzoska and her team, Anna Karpińska-Rzepa and Roksana Hajduga - you didn't organise an event, you built a community, and a day people will carry with them long after they left Klub Studio. The energy in that room went beyond anything we'd imagined. We even had DJs travel all the way from Denmark to be part of the crowd.

To every mentee, mentor, volunteer, speaker and partner who made this flight possible - thank you, from the heart. ❤️

This week at , a fellow panelist nailed it: “We don’t have a workforce problem. We have a system problem.”

Exactly.

Women represent 13% of Australia’s 1.2M construction workforce. But only 3% work in skilled trades. That’s not a supply issue—it’s a design issue.

On Western Sydney International Airport, we proved what’s possible: aligned workforce and delivery models from day one, with targets for local hire (aimed for 30%, achieved 50%), diversity (aimed for 10%, achieved 34%), and learning workers (aimed for 20%, achieved 30%+). Overall exceeded by 14% on average.

That’s not coincidence. That’s purposeful design.

The shift that matters: From measuring participation to designing for inclusion. 72% of Australian construction firms report labour shortages—but this is a systems issue, not a people shortage.

The change I’d make tomorrow: Leaders getting the fundamentals right every single day on the ground. Clear planning, disciplined ex*****on, consistent leadership. But equally—creating environments where people belong and can contribute their full potential.

The question isn’t whether we can afford to lead differently. It’s whether we can afford not to.

Guess who I just saw the other day at the office in Brisbane? Yes, that's me - about 15 years ago. A young Field Engineer in Newcastle, Australia.

I stood there for a moment, just looking at that photo. And honestly, it made me emotional.

I think about that young woman from Poland:
🔹 The one who didn't have all the answers but showed up every day willing to learn.
🔹 The one who was nervous on her first site visit but never let it stop her.
🔹 The one who dreamed big - even when she wasn't sure those dreams were realistic.

I reflected on all the extraordinary people who shaped her along the way:
🔹 The Project Field Engineer in Iceland who saw potential before I saw it in myself.
🔹 The Project Manager in Newcastle, Australia, who trusted me with more responsibility than I thought I was ready for.
🔹 The colleagues in Poland, Iceland, Canada, US, Australia and across the globe who became lifelong friends.
🔹 The leaders across Mining & Metals, Energy, Nuclear, Security & Environmental, and Infrastructure Business Units who opened doors I didn't even know existed.

None of this was a straight line. There were hard days. Moments of doubt. Times when I wondered if I was enough. But there were always people - people who believed in me, people who challenged me, people who supported me.
