“You are now being evaluated for promotion.”
The truth is, companies rarely do that. Most organizations run what I call an invisible leadership evaluation period.
Before someone is promoted to senior leadership, executive leadership, or managing director roles, companies often test something far more important than technical skill:
• Influence without authority
• Executive judgment under pressure
• Strategic thinking in ambiguity
• Leadership maturity during setbacks
• Ability to develop other leaders
Now, after years of working with senior leaders, executives, founders and CEOs, after being a number of times promoted leader in a corporate word myself, I see this pattern being a constant.
Organizations often create situations intentionally to observe how someone behaves before the title arrives.
Not as a trap. But as a test of readiness, leadership mindset and character.
Here is the encouraging part:
➡️ If you recognize yourself going through four or more of these situations, there is a strong chance you are already being considered for greater leadership responsibility.
Which means the real question becomes:
➡️ How are you showing up during the test?
Are you reacting like a manager… or responding like a future executive?
Which of these leadership tests have you experienced in your career?
Comment below with the number that resonates most.
And if you know someone who might be going through this phase right now - repost this for them.
