Modern types of glass, crystal and ceramic products

Modern technological production makes it possible to manufacture various types of industrial and household products from glass, crystal and ceramics.

Ceramic products are used in the manufacture of sanitary engineering (sinks, bathtubs, showers), various types of facing materials (stones, tiles, bricks) and in the construction of buildings made of baked bricks.

The advantages of ceramic products are their harmlessness due to the completely natural composition of the material and fire safety.

Crystal products are traditionally used in the decoration of residential premises. As a rule, tableware, interior items (lamps, flowerpots, decorative stands, furniture decor elements) are made of rock crystal. Crystal is a heavy and durable material, so scratches and chips rarely appear on it.

Glass is produced by cooling components melted at temperatures between +300 and +2500 °C at a rate sufficient to prevent the formation of visible crystals. Sand alone is enough to make glass, but the temperature required to melt it will be much higher. For this reason, soda is added as a modifier. Limestone makes it more durable. Optimum composition: about 75% silica, 10% lime and 15% soda.

Glass composition

Glass is made from natural raw materials that melt at very high temperatures. The main ingredient in glass is sand, but technically the main ingredient is the sand component, quartz, aka silicon dioxide (SiO2), silica or quartz sand.

The quartz is combined with other ingredients which may vary. These are elements such as: soda ash (sodium carbonate); dolomite (a mineral from the carbonate class); limestone (calcium carbonate); cullet (secondary glass); other chemicals (metal oxides, cobalt).
