An AI model developed by NVIDIA re-created the game PAC-MAN from scratch in only four days. The AI-generated model, called GameGAN, was trained on 50,000 play sessions of the arcade classic to produce a playable version for humans, which the company plans to release online this summer. No coding or pre-rendered images of the game were involved.😱

China and the U.S. are leading the global AI race, according to a new study by the U.N. World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The report found that U.S. tech company IBM had, by a wide margin, the most AI patents with 8,920; Microsoft was second with 5,930. Of the 20 academic institutions involved in AI patenting, 17 are in China, and that country has a foothold in the area of deep learning. Deep learning patent applications grew from 118 in 2013 to 2,399 in 2016, and the most popular type of application was for computer vision.

A key objective of the Declaration is to identify the ethical principles and values applicable to the fields of digital technology and AI that promote the fundamental interests of people and groups. These principles are:

10 principles

1. Well-being: The development and use of artificial-intelligence systems (AIS) must permit the growth of the well-being of all sentient beings.
2. Respect for autonomy: AIS must be developed and used with respect for people's autonomy, and with the goal of increasing people's control over their lives and their surroundings.
3. Protection of privacy and intimacy: Privacy and intimacy must be protected from intrusion by AIS and by data-acquisition and archiving systems.
4. Solidarity: The development of AIS must be compatible with maintaining the bonds of solidarity among people and generations.
5. Democratic participation: AIS must meet intelligibility, justifiability and accessibility criteria, and must be subjected to democratic scrutiny, debate and control.
6. Equity: The development and use of AIS must contribute to the creation of a just and equitable society.
7. Diversity inclusion: The development and use of AIS must be compatible with maintaining social and cultural diversity, and must not restrict the scope of lifestyle choices and personal experience.
8. Prudence: Every person involved in AIS development must exercise caution by anticipating, as far as possible, the potential adverse consequences of AIS use, and by taking appropriate measures to avoid them.
9. Responsibility: The development and use of AIS must not contribute to diminishing the responsibility of human beings when decisions must be made.
10. Sustainable development: The development and use of AIS must be carried out so as to ensure strong environmental sustainability of the planet.

It’s amazing when a problem results in a clever invention. This is the case with an innovative new campaign from Visit Faroe Islands. Frustrated by the lack of Google Street View for the islands, the tourism board decided to take matters into their own hands—and hooves—by attaching solar-powered 360-degree cameras on several of the islands’ 80,000 sheep. The end result offers tourists, residents, and even Google Street View a unique look at its ruggedly beautiful terrain.
Visit Faroe Islands has successfully turned a grassroots campaign into a global sensation that has raised awareness for the islands as a travel destination. Dziś, sztuczne, sterowane przez AI, konta ludzi w serwisach społecznościowych, służą przede wszystkim do żartów. Bo przecież taki fake-owy prezydent Trump jest śmieszny. A może wręcz przeciownie?
Wyobraźmy sobie jednak, że takie sterowane przez AI konto, reprezentuje nas na Facebooku, LinkedIn albo w telefonie rozmawiając z potencjalnym klientami, współpracownikami albo urzędami. A nam przekazuje tylko ustalenia z tych rozmów. Jaka to będzie oszczędniość czasu!
