Day 15, Creative Ignite organised by Design Recharge, hosted by Bonnie Tsang, Courage to be vulnerable. Bonnie comes across as honest and direct. She has used both Instagram and Pinterest as marketing tools. Watching her grow has been a real feel good story.
Bonnie uses Pinterest which is an interesting one to market off of. I use Pinterest as a source of inspiration for Stylescapes and these are usually locked client for client. Bonnie uses this in the same way in terms of inspiration for mood boards for clients. But also as a way for the viewer to see the style Bonnie usually works with which gives the audience a sense of what they might be getting from Bonnie. You just need to have a look at how big her audience has grown to see how successfully she has used this platform as a marketing tool.
Instagram most of us are familiar with. I’m not sure how many folks actually drum up business directly from Instagram. I know I struggle with direct work from here but then again I haven’t yet done any paid advertising. So my reach is already capped. Something to work on SOON. Bonnie has done an excellent job in showcasing both her growth and exactly what she offers to potential clients. Refreshing to see that genuine side coming through and her work is top. It’s interesting to see how it progresses.
Be yourself on SM. This comes across so regularly I hope it’s not losing its meaning. Bonnie speaks about vulnerability, an often dismissed word. Can be mistaken for weakness, can find some real good inspiration and building blocks here. But it ain’t easy to look inwards towards ones one feelings of vulnerability. Part of ones aim on SM is connecting to your audience. Showcasing who you are. The internet is a strange place where people feel like they know you. Without an authentic connection you will probably be attracting the wrong type of people.
Who has niche’d down here? For many it’s a scary word often tucked away. For laters. Fear of narrowing ones clientele to being stuck in one thing. It’s funny how we all think we will be stuck with one focus for the rest of our lives. Who told us this? Why do we think like this? Bonnie tends to give herself an annual review s lesson was:
- Review where you are at possibly annually (Your own appraisal).
- Set yourself guidelines to follow by one you have given yourself a review.
- Be authentic be yourself.
- Remember what you post is how your audience perceives you.
Hope a few of these pointers will help you out on your marketing.
