Lisbon hosts one of the most prominent world long distance triathlons in the world under CHALLENGEFAMILY, which currently has more than 40 races in 24 countries worldwide. This international event, with the name CHALLENGELISBOA, includes the CHALLENGEFAMILY Corporate World Cup and a chance to qualify for the THECHAMPIONSHIP. This is a new step for Lisboa Triathlon, a prestige long distance triathlon, with more than 10 years of great experiences. The event takes place at Parque das Nações in Lisbon and the athletes have different races available, with the majority participating in the main event, the Half-Distance Triathlon (comprising a 1.900m swim, 90km of cycling and a 21k half-marathon). This sports event receives super-athletes from around the world, with 60% of the participants being international athletes. It’s an event for the entire family, with different activities and the largest triathlon Expo / Village in Portugal.

Dra. Amélia Vasconcelos was the 2022 Challenge Lisboa Official Race Doctor, working for ASSBSI International Emergency, the Official Safety and Rescue Agency for Challenge Lisboa 2022.

We just received the sad news she passed way at the age of 68, on August 30th, 2022.

She did a remarkable job on a challenging race that ended with one fatality.

Dra. Amélia was one of the first persons to attend to the rescue of the falling athlete, in the water, and stayed with him by his side, tireless, until she was able to bring him back and get him to the hospital alive (unfortunately passing way the next day).

We regret the loss and extend our warmest condolences to the family and friends.

It is with great sadness we confirm the death of a participant at Challenge Lisboa at the weekend. During the swim in Saturday's race, swim safety personnel recognised the athlete was in trouble and provided him with immediate medical attention. He was transported to the medical tent where the medical staff were able to revive him and rush him to hospital. However, we have learned on the evening of Sunday 8 May, the athlete sadly passed away. We share our deepest condolences with the athlete's family and friends and will continue to offer them our support in this very sad time. We thank the swim safety personnel and medical staff who responded so quickly to provide the athlete with medical care he needed.
