It’s mid October and I get a message from a former client requesting my help to lead the Lessons Learned component of the inaugural UK Caribbean Infrastructure Fund (UKCIF) conference:

"… I would like to ask if you might still have availability and interest."

The event is Nov 20 to 24! Want to know what happened and why the snail is important?

Back in September last year while I was in Lisboa Edwin Morris of Pioneer Knowledge Services approached my asking if i might talk to him "on the record" about my Collaborative Valedictory exercise. That podcast was published today:

I'm humbled that former colleagues and clients are still lining up to contribute their reflections on my interactions with them over a 50 year working career. Thank you, Dr Christopher Heimann, Bonnie Cheuk Rebecca Dorsett and Sofia Layton for these observations.

In the meantime here’s lovely reflection from the former founding partner of a small business in Lewes.

My takeaway on how to handle review trolls: “In whatever business you are in you need to create a cadre of followers who feel a sense of ownership of your product or service.”

Just 10 to go to reach my "a reflection a year" target on the anniversary of the start of my career in September 1973. I'm humbled by the range and diversity of the reflections and the impact I've had on the lives of others. A big takeaway:

"...if you believe in something and have the chutzpah to get on with it there are no barriers to getting it done provided you overcome apathy and the Not Invented Here (NIH) lobby."

"... a non response can be equally damaging to a working relationship. There is nothing more demotivating than sending a message to a colleague who you know has received it and get no response."

What Does 👍 Mean. The thumbs up sign emoji 👍, also known as the “yes” emoji, is used to express general contentment. It can also be used to show approval and support for someone’s actions or ideas. It can also mean “great job” or “keep it up,” depending on the context.

The importance (or not) of affirmation Posted on July 22, 2023 by Paul Corney Culture, etiquette, manners, rituals call it what you want. Functioning society thrives when people know and abide by a set of norms in the way they behave and interact with others. I’ve previously suggested that the Eng...

“A collaborative valedictory”

During 50 years of work I’ve come across many people and organisations. And while people have said nice things I’ve often wondered what if anything I’ve said and done has stayed with them.

I decided to engage in a virtual retrospect and ask former clients, colleagues and collaborators what they thought.

Here’a a few global snippets and below one of my favourite assignment photos:

“Fired up and ready to go” for today’s session. Anticipating will be the elephant in the room. I’m equally excited by its research potential and terrified by its potential for exploitation.

Exploring Auditory Clutter and its impact on communications.
"If we declutter our spoken words it makes it easier for the listener to grasp the message we are trying to convey and not get lost in redundant words"

Why organisations invest in KM.
I’ve always believed in “Give / Get” or “Paying it forward”. if you put yourself out for others and give without expectation of reward, people will remember when you need to ask of them. And so it proved. Interested? Read on:

Mind your language: when yes means no!

"I suggest the English speaking world is privileged but lazy. Few of us speak another language yet we get offended when non native English speakers don’t grasp what we say or mean."
