As part of the next iteration of Fluency in Care, we’re expanding concepts that we think need new interpretations, ones that carefully align with our proposal. One of the notions that is essential to be able to express and elaborate a deeper understanding of care as a collective commitment towards more livable futures is the meaning of Human Capacity.

In the following images, you’ll find how we’re beginning to describe, and map, Human Capacity across multiple dimensions. We’d love to hear your thoughts and reflections. Contribute to the exploration on Substack and LinkedIn [Links in the comments].

Town Anywhere is a large- scale visioning process which brings people together to vision and enact a positive thriving future for their place.

During the session we will be led by Ruth Ben-Tovim in an exploration of TOWN ANYWHERE, and experience a taste of the imagination practice it uses.

If you're interested in place-based imagination there's a session today at 4pm (3pm GMT). Ask me for the link for the Zoom session.

'Town Anywhere is an extraordinary exercise. It invites us to step into the future, to reimagine and rebuild the world, and then to inhabit it. One of the mo...

We have been involved with the coworking phenomena since the very beginning and we share more or less the same history. We also started from the idea that we could make stuff together without the need to belong to the same thing and very early understood the power of spaces as a device for collaboration.

To us coworking goes hand in hand with the open source movement and the maker and hacker culture and we are as much part of it as it is part of us. It’s a way of being.

We never looked at it from the perspective of service providers, instead we see it as a sandbox for experimentation and playing (learning) with others and an open space for improbable meetings and for connecting with the world at large.

This week we are participating in two gatherings around the topic:

Research Group on Collaborative Spaces
New ways of moving, new ways of working: Collaborating between presence and absence. → Friday, 22 March - Toulouse (and online) https://rgcs-owee.org/

COST - European Cooperation in Science and Technology
The Geography of New Working Spaces and the Impact on the Periphery → Saturday, 23 March - Impact Hub Lisbon https://coworkportugal.co/event-23-03/

The Erasmus+ PLAY/ACT project will be hosting in Évora, Portugal the International Placemaking Conference “A Place to Be”, with the intent to share diverse perspectives, experiences, and practices related to the transformation of places through civic participation and co-design processes.

Within the RUA+ placemaking project we delved into the transformation of public spaces, emphasizing their potential as platforms for community engagement, experimentation, and inter-generational connection.

Pedro, will be speaking on the first day of the conference about fostering community engagement and inter-generational bridges through shared play.

What influence does a neighborhood party have on the sense of autonomy of a community?

“When we make a party in the streets of our neighborhood, we spend more time in it, we clean it, improve it and decorate it. We look at the space from a different perspective, notice things we didn’t notice before, learn new things. We are more available to interact with our neighbors, we meet new people, get to know each other better.

We take ownership and make decisions. The streets become ours.”

On the 31st of October, the Komuhn team and a group of students from Savonia - University of Applied Sciences, in Finland, went on exploring ‘What does a Caring organization look like?’

We facilitated an exercise where the students, divided into smaller groups, explored the theme deepening their understanding. The groups brought together designs with learnings:
From finding correlations between family and work, 👪
to creating a playbook for promoting empathy in schools, 📑
to a robot buddy that generates capacity for care, 🤖
and exploring freedom as a guide to the future of the workplace, 🔓

After the exercise, based on the demos presented, we had an open discussion. These were some of the topics worth exploring:
Can you get fired from a family?
Can we actually learn empathy?
The dilemma of a shared language: Bad english as the collaboration idiom
Technology, preparation and assuming things will go wrong
The value of being with conflict
The value of patience for participation (fair and thriving)
The importance of roles and how to distribute them
Rounds as a tool for equity
What you learned, with your team, within your organization, towards your community, society and ecosystem
Creativity and imagination as a source for wellbeing and belonging
Organizing beyond control
Leadership alternatives to hierarchy

At the end of the workshop, we challenged the students to open up their proposals to the wider world. Whether it's by starting a project, writing an article or starting a discussion…we are looking forward to seeing everyone’s take on the challenge and understanding how we can contribute.

We feel so grateful for the time and involvement in our workshop, for spending the day learning more about care and organizations, and for the opportunity to remotely return to Finland from Peniche.

If we are to have the next generations of innovators that will be able to look at the world with a sense of possibility and capacity who are the adults that are guiding them? Are the educators that steer the young ones through the first years of their lives also filled with that sense?

Change Darer dared to propose to take teachers to explore outside of their schools and visit projects that can inspire their own initiatives and aspirations.

Yesterday, we’ve welcomed Little Change Darer first cohort at RUA+ ! Thank you Daniela for bringing to us these teachers daring to inspire and get inspired.
