ELEGER O BARCO RABELO A PATRIMÓNIO EUROPEU DE CULTURA
O barco rabelo é uma embarcação portuguesa, típica do Rio Douro que tradicionalmente transportava as pipas de Vinho do Porto do Alto Douro, onde as vinhas se localizam, até Vila Nova de Gaia - Porto, onde o vinho era armazenado e, posteriormente, comercializado e enviado para outros países.
Sendo um barco de rio de montanha, o rabelo não tem quilha e é de fundo chato, com um comprimento variável entre os 19 e 23 metros e 4,5 metros de boca. A sua construção, de tábuas sobrepostas, tábua trincada, é
nórdica, em comparação com a do Mediterrâneo.
Com uma vela quadrada, o rabelo era manejado normalmente por seis ou sete homens

The boat is typical of the Douro River that traditionally carried the casks of Port Alto Douro, where the vineyards are located, to Vila Nova de Gaia - Porto, where the wine was stored and subsequently marketed and sent to other countries.
Being a mountain river boat, the rabelo has no keel and is flat-bottomed, with a variable length between 19 and 23 meters and 4.5 meters wide. The construction of overlapping planks, boards cracked, is Nordic compared with that of the Mediterranean.
With a square sail, the rabelo was usually handled by six or seven men.
