We are very proud to share that we have been invited to speak at the WIO-C Plastics Working Group side event at the UNEP-Nairobi Convention COP12, taking place on October 8th at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam .
The session theme, “Who pays, who acts, who benefits: Charting the Western Indian Ocean’s roadmap to combat marine plastic pollution,” strikes at the core of the work we do at Mad Plastic. As we move from international treaty negotiations to implementation, the challenge is clear: how do we translate global ambition into tangible results for our oceans?
I look forward to discussing the role of community-led circular economy projects in this roadmap, proving that when we empower local solutions, we not only reduce plastic leakage but also strengthen our blue economy and livelihoods.
