Hero of the Month | Akhter Hussain Khan

Good engineers fix things. Great, exceptional ones improve them.

That is how Akhter Hussain Khan has worked throughout his more than two years with FMM as an Electrical Engineer. Alongside keeping systems safe and reliable, he has looked for practical ways to improve how our facilities operate, particularly when it comes to energy use.

Some improvements have come from small changes to the way systems are run day to day. Others have been bigger pieces of work, like replacing conventional lighting with LED across our facilities, which continues to bring energy use down.

Akhter is proudest of the major maintenance shutdowns he has led. Taking equipment out of service for maintenance demands careful planning and a lot of people working closely together, and each one has ended with everything back in service safely and in better condition than before.

He never compromises on the basics. His advice to colleagues is to hold the standard even when the pressure is on, because doing things properly is what keeps people safe and systems reliable.

Congratulations Akhter and thank you for the care and discipline that keep everything else running.

Heat Stress Awareness & Emergency Response Campaign | Enhancing Prevention and Readiness during the Summer Season

Heat safety starts with awareness and action.

FMM conducted a Heat Stress Awareness and Emergency Response Campaign to strengthen employees understanding of heat stress prevention and emergency preparedness during the summer season. The campaign provided employees with practical, hands-on demonstrations covering first aid and emergency response procedures, recognition of heat illness symptoms, proper use of electrolyte solutions, and effective hydration practices.

Participants were also introduced to heat stress monitoring mechanisms, including the use of Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) meters and the interpretation of heat stress measurements in line with applicable requirements and guidelines. In addition to the mandatory training delivered as part of ministerial requirements, the campaign offered an interactive platform for employees to enhance their knowledge through physical demonstrations, discussions, and experience sharing.

The session emphasized the importance of welfare provisions, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), heat stress monitoring tools, rest and recovery arrangements, and proactive measures to protect workers health and wellbeing during high-temperature conditions. The campaign was successfully delivered with active employee participation and reinforced FMMs commitment to safeguarding its workforce through effective heat stress management and emergency preparedness initiatives.

Thank you to all participants and trainers for helping build a safer, stronger, and more caring workplace.
