"I can't explain it using words" - in a User Testing session, the interviewer urges the user to say out loud everything they see, do or feel, they briefly go through a cognitive walkthrough together . A classic declarative method often used also in marketing research.
However, only 2% of the decision making process is conscious, most of it being subconscious. Thus, the very activity of articulating words alters the truth. This is why most User Research & Testing is not relevant and does not really capture people's preferences.
Frustration, joy, attention - just a few extremely relevant axes in determining the User Journey - are accurately highlighted by the EEG method. All you need is an eye movement and a few electrical impulses.
