We are excited to announce the winners of our refugee-led Wi-Fi entrepreneurship competition!

Congratulations to Betty, Adronis and Gakuru!
The winners pitched their exceptional business plans outlining how they will integrate hashtag Wi-Fi into their shops, providing their regular services like printing, photocopying and charging, alongside a high-quality Internet connection.

The joint investment between these entrepreneurs and Kumwe Hub will create fast and reliable Wi-Fi connections across the Mahama Refugee Camp, giving refugees the freedom to access online services, like applying for scholarships or starting a digital business.

Recently, we were thrilled to welcome our colleagues from Save the Children Uk: Anna von Griesheim, Senior Impact Manager and Mauricio Preciado-Awad, Director of Innovation and Ventures, both from Innovation Hive; and Luke Hayman, Head of Scaling Innovations from LIFT Lab. Innovation Hive and LIFT Lab have supported us since our launch, championing our growth every step of the way.

During the trip, they visited some Kumwe clients such as:

- The Itetero Daycare – refugee-led business in Mahama Refugee Camp
- Little Stars ECD – supported by a Kumwe seed capital
- KREW Ltd Solution– who are manufacturing locally made assistive devices for children with disabilities
- Rainbow Health Foods LTD – who are providing nutritious and affordable porridge for children

Both KREW and Rainbow Health Foods LTD were winners of our 2022 low-interest loan competition, and we are pleased by their growth ever since.

In honor of hashtag , we are inspired by remarkable entrepreneurs like Olpah, a refugee mother in Mahama Camp in Rwanda.

Thanks to Itetero Daycare, supported by Kumwe Hub, Olpah was able to fully focus on her fruit and vegetable business. She boosted her monthly profits by more than 70%, knowing her child was well cared for in a safe daycare space. Olpah was then able to invest her additional profits towards paying for her child's daycare fees.

Kumwe Hub is proud to stand with refugees and is dedicated to co-creating valuable solutions with and for them.

This week, Kumwe Hub was invited by Innovation Norway to participate in in Geneva. , our Programmes Manager presented our exciting innovation projects that we lead in Rwandan refugee camps and her experience with innovative programming in the humanitarian sector and Save the Children.

Key learnings she highlighted include:
✅Commit to human-centred design - have the solutions designed by those who are experiencing the problems.
✅Marry the problem, not the solution
✅It is possible to innovate even within large organisations. Often you come up with a solution that delivers an even better impact on the community you’re working with
