The disastrous accounting treatment for foreign currency and PPE revaluation in Sudan.

In the past decade, the hyperinflation economy has devalued all entities' non-monetary balance sheet items in Sudan.

A common practice during this timeframe has been to recognize significant revaluation gains. That acts as deferred gains to be recognized upon sale. (I.e either the sale of PPE item according to ias 16 or utilization of foreign currencies according to Central Bank of Sudan’s circulars that is adopted in some companies).

What isn't being done is the transferring of revaluation gains into retained earnings when recognition criteria are met.

I.e Recognition of retained earnings from revaluation surplus is met upon sale of PPE that has been retrospectively revalued.

Utilization of monetary foreign currency, where retrospectively its revaluation gain was parked in revaluation surplus (equity).

We will see a magnitude of write-offs as soon as these figures start to look unreasonably buffered up.

You have a background in Auditing and are skilled in statutory reporting, IFRS and Financial Services Regulations and hold an understanding of commercial and business acumen to assist in this client facing role.

Duties

Supervise and review work prepared by staff while providing feedback and guidance
Proficient at preparing financial statements
Assist with planning and ex*****on of the audit in accordance with auditing standards
Ability to work on multiple engagement
Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients and serve as the clients primary contact where appropriate
Identify issues and make suggestions for improvement
Communicate status of work with managers or partners on a timely basis
Complete assigned projects within engagement timelines and budget guidelines
Travel to client assignments as needed
Participate in trainings, recruiting events, and firm activities

Requirements

preferably 3 years of related experience
Bachelors degree in accounting
Previous experience in a public accounting firm is a plus
SACA (Sudanese certification for chartered accountants), CPA, ACCA
Superior verbal and written communication skills in English and arabic
