It is sad to learn Stefan Jakobielski left us. He was one the Polish archaeologists that spent time and helped the local communities around Old Dongola.

Among many researches he led at Old Dongola, he investigated the mosque of Old Dongola in the early 1970, contributed to our understanding of the building's history.

May his soul rest in peace.

W Jego osobie straciliśmy nie tylko jednego z pionierów nubiologii, ostatniego uczestnika historycznych badań w Faras, wybitnego epigrafika i archeologa, ale też człowieka, którego opowieści o archeologii Sudanu, a także o związanych z nią ludziach potrafiły w niezrównany sposób oddać ducha owych czasów i wydarzeń.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of this pioneering epigrapher and archaeologist in Nubian studies and a unique storyteller who captured the essence of Sudanese archaeology and its people.
He will be missed!
