Last weekend my wife Anne and Beyond The Line athlete Dennis Santa Paula completed the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in St George, Utah.
Here is what Dennis said:
"2 World championships in 3 weeks! It was not easy, not fully recovered neither I did any specific training for a half ironman! Felt really good on the course today, not as fast as I wished, but enjoyed every second of this beautiful and challenging course in St George! So blessed to have qualified and finished Kona (full Ironman) and St George (half Ironman)! It’s the perfect dream for any triathlete. I thank my coach Olivier from Beyond the Line for preparing me for these crazy races and my family for understanding how crazy I am😀!"
Great job Dennis... one last race before Xmas and your best season ever will be done!

24 runs, 23 swims, 60k run, 10k swim, traversing a huge archipelago somewhere in Sweden at breathtaking pace tied to your race partner racing against 160 other teams who qualified for this event.
This is Ötillo World Championship, and it happened two days ago.
The idea of doing this race first occurred to me in 2014. It took me a while, but I made it. Thanks race partner Patricia Mountain to make this dream possible.

So this is where I do most of my swims in Serre Chevalier. It is a natural pool where everything is in symbiose, the minerals, plants and humans are part of the same life circle. The length is roughly 70m and while I am the one and only ‘swimmer’ and it is a great family place, I manage to do my workouts without bumping into people. That’s good, because I have the Ötillö World Championship in 30 days so I’d better swim! 🫣🤪🤩

I wouldn’t use the word ‘fun’ to describe my usual training. Call it challenging, satisfying, gratifying, but ‘fun’… no way. But whenever I try a new activity, I do have ‘fun’. Canyoning with the family close to home was in fact super fun!
